Medical assistant career fascinates me for its diversity in medical profession which varies from hospital, clinics, family practices and many more. The great part of this career is that every day you will be able to assist different patients with different services, have access to more hands on procedures, work in a group with other healthcare providers, build trust, and share constructive ideas about medical world. Last year, I had spent most of my time doing research at the Freshman Research Initiative program, prepared to graduate, and get accepted to work as a lab researcher. I found myself staying in the laboratory daily from noon till night, using applied biochemistry knowledge and nucleic acids to research drug development; the procedure …show more content…
Since medical assistant can decide to work either at an administrative or clinic, it is necessary that basic medical skills are needed in all critical situations; required skills are CPR, minor treatment, intake assessment, vision testing, wounds care, crutch teaching, and stocking examination rooms. Since medical assistant is flexible to organize materials and procedures around their healthcare facility, they need to stay sane and handle a critical situation following appropriate procedures and policy setting up by their healthcare facility. I found this to be fascinating because medical assistants have different tasks and keep everything fresh and new in their minds so they can work at their highest mindset. Therefore, medical assistants will not do the same task day in and out. One of my family members is currently working as a medical assistant and she enjoys the hands on opportunity that her clinic offers such as taking vital signs, teaching crutch to disabled, and having a one on one time with other people who will soon to be her …show more content…

With an eye on patient safety, what clinical services may a medical assistant perform in your medical practice?
An administrative assistant must be able to handle stress, multitask, and work well under pressure. There are multiple jobs that the administrative medical assistant is responsible for, such as, answering the phone, being able to use computer applications, triaging phone calls with the permission of the physician, scheduling appointments, filing patient charts, collecting money, filing insurance claims and medical coding. When answering a call, greeting a patient, or writing a letter they must do so in a professional matter. They must also have good communication skills and a good personality and be familiar with medical terminology and medical coding, and be able to help patients with their best of knowledge. Depending on the facility they work on, they may occasionally need to assistant in the back with taking vital signs, translation, if they are bilingual, or with patient education, as directed by the doctor. In other words, administrative medical assistants have many occupations while working in the front
The physician assistant is a team player in the medical world, working daily with surgeons, physicians, therapists, and many other health care professionals. Similar to the job description of physicians, PAs see patients, take medical histories, preform physical exams, make diagnoses, order and interpret tests, and develop treatment plans (Ludwig). A physician assistant, nowadays, may even perform procedures that were once performed exclusively by physicians. Because every PA must have a supervising physician who oversees their work, it is assumed by many that PAs are “assistants to doctors”, however, that is not the case because a vast majority of PAs work independently. The extent of supervision by a physician varies depending on location and branch of medicine. Although, a physician assistant may carry out much of the same roles as a physician would, the amount of schooling required to become a PA is nearly half as many as that of a physician. Physician assistant programs nationwide require an undergraduate degree in one of many sciences, such as biology, and certain
I believe that people everywhere should always have access to adequate medical care. Where you live should not determine whether you live, and the PA profession was created to improve the availability of healthcare in rural and other underserved areas. As a PA, I would be eager to help people have not had access to the care they needed. I want to serve those that need medical attention but don’t have the means to obtain it—whether in rural Michigan, the inner-city of Atlanta, or the backwoods of Arkansas. Making great medical care accessible to all is crucial to improving public health, and it is a necessity across this country and the world. As a physician assistant,

Any job in the medical field is great, because it will always be needed no matter what. Doctors, nurses, techs, etc. are all very important and necessary people, but the people behind the scenes are just as important, medical administrative assistants. Being a medical administrative assistant seems awfully difficult, you have all these responsibilities but at the end of the day you’ll have a sense of satisfaction because you may have possibly really helped a patient or family with a serious and hard situation. My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
I like that PAs are trained under a medical model as opposed to a nursing model, but they are still under the supervision of a physician. I have seen the trust between a physician and a PA in many settings. From pediatrics to the emergency room, the trust is the same. The physician trusts the PA to make medical decisions that are best for their patient, but the PA knows she can go to the supervising physician without question when she feels the need to. The bond of trust between the two providers is the reason Physician Assistants can perform their duties in the healthcare field. The ability to conduct physical exams and decide on treatment plans to aide in the improvement of patient’s lives is the main reason I have chosen to go into the medical field. I want to help patients live better lives. The ability to locate a problem and come of up with a solution is the driven component of my choice. Puzzles and problem solving have always been an interest, so to be able to perform these tasks on a daily basis would make for an enjoyable job in which I would not dread to come to work every
During my observership, my clinic intern mentor was Shiyama Hassan. Overall it was an enjoyable, less stressful academic experience.I got a chance to take patient histories, examination and patient’s vital sign monitoring and charting. I didn’t feel much difference in observing my mentor taking the history and when I was taking the history, it could be related to my past experience. However, every time I was curious to know what is happening with the patients and what caused him to seek naturopathic medical advice. During this clinic shadowing, I saw genuine interest of my mentor and supervisor to help patients concerns, unlike to allopathic model of prescribing medication. It helped me to improve my interviewing skills to look root cause for
My educational experiences sparked my first consideration of a career in physician assistant and encouraged me to further explore this interest. At the same time, I started giving community services to healthcare. My first opportunity to personally interact with the patient was in the emergency department as a volunteer at Dekalb Medical Center. The first day I stepped onto the floor, my
