Another problem that also arises from the use of internet filters and blocks is that it is a direct violation of the freedom of speech granted by the constitution. Because of the many burdens and problems internet censorship brings, it is of great importance that we keep our American internet just like our country, free. Internet censorship is nothing original for many people around the world. Several large countries around the world have been using this form of communication blocking to channel the actions of the internet away from what users... ... middle of paper ... ...Republic of China. This software restricts access to certain websites like Wikileaks and You tube that expose corruption, police brutality and similar acts. The freedom to access the internet has been denied to the Chinese citizens. Their government only lets them see what is considered safe and appropriate. This is a violation of the right to access information freely. The people and not the government should have the right to choose on what to view on the internet.
The Great Firewall is what people call the firewall that prevents users from reaching certain sites. To find the sites that need censoring, they create algorithms to go through the internet looking for blacklisted words. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are required to cooperate with the government and sign the public pledge, which has been criticized by the United... ... middle of paper ... ...orried about China and it's censoring. Some businesses do not want to initiate deals because of the limited access of the internet. All the monitoring and censorship causes issues with business, trade, and the economy.
I will be writing about how America’s government is not the only one in the world using censorship to prevent its people from hearing and knowing the truth. China and several other countries are doing the exact same thing. It is mandated by China’s Communist government that all types of media be censored before being released to the people. China’s government is is known for blocking internet access and using censorship to keep order. I’m going to write about the different methods China’s government uses to prevent its people from knowing what is really happening.
The international response calls for the halting of these immoral actions, but China still claims that it is destroying an evil institution. The simple fact China denies its members freedom of religion violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which China has signed, but the violence against its people if they adhere to Falun Gong beliefs is a gross abuse of its power. Although China bans many religions, there is special emphasis on the Falun Gong, and many wonder why. One highly possible reason is that the growth, international reach, and popularity of the Falun Gong threatens the universal power the CCP holds in China, weakening the government, and therefore leading to the destruction of the threat: the Falun Gong. The Falun Gong, despite what the CCP may say, is not an evil insti... ... middle of paper ... ... Tiananmen incident, Falun Gong, and the Beijing Olympics.
There are many countries that don’t allow the use of the internet at all and some countries only censor what they don’t want their citizens to know. Daniel Calingaert said “The internet has provided greater space for free expression in countries where traditional broadcast and print media are restricted” (64). Free expression is a very guarded privilege to United States citizens. Private citizens and businesses can censor what is accessed on their computers to protect themselves, so why would it not be acceptable for the government to censor what is accessed in order to protect the citizens of the United States of America. Some believe this is an infringement of free speech, while others find censorship of the internet a necessary evil in today’s cyber world.
So if Article 23 is passed and you wrote an article about how the Chief Executive of Hong Kong is doing a really bad job and would be good for Hong Kong if he resigned and maybe people will read it. They might believe what you write is true and go on a demonstration which might cause some violence. The police will arrest you for sedition since you incited people to engage in a violent public disorder. But you didn't mean to cause this violence, you were just expressing your own opinion. So sedition could restrict your freedom of expression.

America has tried to engage the Chinese to try to stop such theft, but while doing so may have surpassed civil liberties that are constitutional to all American citizens. The United States needs to ensure safety of intellectual property, while at the same time protecting the rights of the American people. By allowing overzealous amounts of regulation on the Internet would be unconstitutional. The most detrimental forms of Internet piracy do not happen within American borders; instead, they occur from overseas countries, like China (London, 2011). This causes the American economy to lose billions of dollars.
The political motivations behind this severe censorship are a driving factor of the project’s resilience, and therefore has become one of the most controversial human rights topics in recent years. The Great Firewall of China censors innumerable amounts of content for an assortment of reasons. The most common objective is to silence criticism of the Chinese government and to prevent ideologies contrary to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) policies from gaining momentum. The Chinese government goes beyond just blocking individual websites however, using “techniques to scan URLs and web page content for blacklisted keywords like ‘Tiananmen’ and block such traffic” (Hoffman). Due to this, they most often target social media platforms, virtual commercial exchange markets, and information-based registers.
