Almost everyone lived with their families. To farm they used stone tools or their own bare hands. They had a “ball game” which is now known as basketball. The Pre-Classic period of their civilization was from 1800 B.C. to A.D. . In 300 B.C. they came up with the idea for kings. They made a lot of arts including carving, painting, sculptures, and ceramics. However, they made these arts so they could be remembered throughout history. On the other hand, it took them nearly 2000 years to build their temples, pyramids etc. . El Castillo is a pyramid that can still be found today. The Mayans were ruled by a government. Leaders and nobles were judges. On the other hand there, was really no difference between kings and priests. In fact, you became a priests by being wealthy. This takes us to their punishments. Crimes such as murder were sentenced as death. Weird punishments like shaving heads were used back then. The Mayans believed in many gods. In fact, Itzamna is a god that they worshipped. They recognized their rulers everyday. The Mayans achieved many achievements. Scientists used almost all art to find out about them. Their calendar was made by carving into buildings, stele artifacts, and books. The Mayans lived in multiple major cities. Each major city had a Mesoamerican (basketball) court in it.
