Have you ever wondered why you are not getting as good night’s sleep? If you have, you may be thinking that it has something to do with your room temperature, stress level, or your snoring partner. However, take a moment to think about the comfort of your mattress. It is the very first and most basic overlooked thing that affects the quality of sleep experienced by most individuals. Is it too soft, or do you need a firm mattress for longer uninterrupted sleep. The question of whether a soft or firm mattress is better for you can boil down to the health benefits as well as personal preference. It is easy to see how the health benefits can outweigh other factors in choosing a mattress on the “firm or soft scale”.

If this is you, forget the myth that a soft mattress can provide you with a relaxing deep sleep. The truth is soft mattresses tend to sag forcing you to shift into uncomfortable positions throughout the night, to the point where your body cannot fully rest. The body’s reaction is to try and compensate for the unorthodox positions, which in turn, keeps you awake. A firm mattress gives comfort by not sagging in areas where your body mostly rest, and as such, you will spend less time trying to adjust your body’s position in search of comfort. Even so, like the spine, other limbs of the body need to be positioned comfortably for great sleep, and a firm mattress provides the appropriate surface to achieve sleep
