Every day when you ride in your car and look at buildings and cross over bridges you are looking at the work of engineers. Even the roads you drive on are the work of engineers. The ability to create, design, and build structures that takes an application of scientific, economic, social, practical, and most of all mathematical skills is what defines an engineer. There are many different fields of engineering that go beyond the main braches which are mechanical, chemical, civil, and electrical engineering. The one constant that you will notice in every field of engineering is the factor of mathematical skills that are needed. Engineering has existed since the Ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome in Europe and even the Aztecs and Incas …show more content…

More than ever, engineers are now required to have knowledge of mathematics for their design projects. Engineers weigh different design choices on their merits and choose the solution that best fits the requirements. Engineers also create an appropriate mathematical model of a problem that allows them to analyze it, test potential solutions. They also typically attempt to predict how well their designs will perform to their specifications prior to full-scale production. They use prototypes, scale models, simulations, destructive tests, and stress tests to make sure their products will perform as they expected. To become an engineer you must have a high school diploma and a bachelor's degree in engineering and have a excellent background in many academic areas including mathematics. The mathematic courses such as algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry all should be easily navigated by an inspiring engineer. Currently there are over 1.5 million engineers employed throughout the United States. Many different industries employ engineers, but most engineers are employed in manufacturing or for companies that provide professional, scientific, or technical
