Humanity’s greatest downfalls can often be credited to human nature, especially in regards to the downfall of people placed in a powerful position. This is because when placed in a position of power, people succumb to unethical practices. As demonstrated in the novels Matched by Ally Condie, and The Circle by Dave Eggers, power leads to corruption. This is seen through the unethical practices people in power commit, which consist of their obsessive need to control others, how they put their personal gain over the population's needs, and how they abuse their power.

People, more specifically politicians, disappear because they speak against The Circle. (insert quote soon after.”) This shows how the Circle is trying to remove others freedom of speech when it does not parallel their own thoughts. “It is universally acknowledged that freedom of expression is a foundational human right of great importance” (Restricting Freedom of Expression: Standards and Principles, Mendel, Toby). The Circle who is meant to keep the law is breaking it. They have become corrupt, and are no longer only a company as they can control the government. If they are capable of sending politicians to jail without a second thought, then they could do it to anyone. The Circles complete control of others website history is a very dangerous power which they use with lethal force. The Circles original leader does not have evil intent. His goal is to stop the Circle from becoming a monopoly and controlling everything (insert quote).
