Multi grammy winning, funk and soul artist, or better known as the “Prince of soul,” Marvin Gaye was born in Washington D.C., on April 2, 1939 as Marvin Pentz Gaye, Jr. He was born to, and named after, his father, Marvin Gay Sr. and mother Alberta Gay. Though he found many success in his later life as an international artist, Gaye (Marvin later place and “e” behind his name) grew up in hardships, abuse and rough living conditions. Father, Marvin Sr., was a minister for the local community church, his family consisted of four younger siblings and two half brothers. Early life for Marvin consisted of many hardships. Him and his family were residents of public housing areas and lived in some of the most rundown conditions one can fathom. Residents like Marvin were without running water and other proper living conditions- some people even lived in shacks in alleys. Marvin Gay, Sr. was often times cruel and abusive to young Marvin. Though life was moving forward, he constantly felt lost and trapped by his father’s I began to connect his upbrings in these sections. He also reminds the listeners that through coming together we can conquer all repeatedly. Though his album questions many situations that many seem sad and/or controversial, he constantly reminds listeners that the answer to all these hardships in the world will be better in the light of god. In many of songs, Marvin trails off into what resembles small sections of call-and- responses that are done in church sermons. Through extensive research we know that his love for music and origins of influence began as a young child of a Minister in a church, which have encompassed Marvin Gaye’s whole being into one album. I believe strongly that this album best represents his upbringings and influenced all in one which in turn wholly shapes and entails who the Marvin Pentz Gay Jr. truly
Motown is the sound that changed America. No other record company in history had more than 180 number 1 hit songs worldwide and counting. Motown just recently celebrated their 50th anniversary of the company’s founding. Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Jackson 5, and many much brought together racially divided country and segregated society around the world. In this essay I first will tell you more information about Motown and where it got its name from, I then will tell you about Marvin Gaye and his history dealings with Motown, next I will talk about Stevie Wonder and explain his life and how he became a part of Motown, and lastly I will talk about Jackson 5 and talk about how they became a group and their dealings with Motown.
Following the victory of the North over the South in the civil war, Black Americans were given independence. This led to court rulings such as the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendment, which granted all citizens equality before the law and stated that, the ‘right to vote should not be denied ... on account of race’. However, in practice these Amendments were not upheld, there were no measures in place to implement these rulings and no prevention of the ill treatment of Black Americans. Due to these new rulings, De Facto segregation increased especially with the establishment of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). Also, in the South although the 15th Amendment gave everyone the right to vote, Jim Crow laws were put in place to deliberately prevent Black Americans from voting. Black Americans had differing views on how to deal with their situation, while some felt it was best to accept the status quo, others wanted to fight for equal rights but disagreed on whether they should integrate with whites or remain separate.

Songs are one way of expressing feelings and emotion, many artist do this constantly in their music. To some it is why they make music. There are endless signs and verses that hint at many things such as problems, politics, living in racist era’s also places. I chose to focus on one main rapper and his music only.
Queen never revealed the meaning behind their lyrics to the public leaving the people to decipher whatever they wish. However, this song being Freddie Mercury’s own personal story, hints at the thought of him coming out that he’s gay. In the first stanza Freddie is battling his inner thoughts asking, “Is this reality? Is this just fantasy?” As the stanza continues he explains he was a poor soul that knows he is confused and has to deal with it. In the second stanza the lyrics explain how he has killed off his past self and becomes a new person. The first line states, “Mama, just killed a man” this is interpreted as Freddie killing off his past self and hiding his feelings for this man who is homoerotic and accepts it. The ability to overcome the racist of America was the biggest struggle in becoming one of the world’s famous Black American recording producers. In this essay I will attempt to decipher how Frank Sinatra changed music. I will try to understand what made his music so different, unique, and genuine that we still worship him like a god today. In addition, I expect to discover how he changed as a person over his five decade career. I want to analyze who he associated himself with, assuming the possibility that these people had an effect on his music and persona. I believe that while his music changed as did his personality. I trust that when Sinatra originally started singing with the glee club of Demarest High School, he had no idea of where his life was heading, nor the legend he was going to become. Thus, as his fame progressed and evolved so did his music and disposition. In my own opinion, there is no one archetypal Sinatra song or album; honestly I don’t even believe that there is even one true Frank Sinatra style. His five decade career seemed to divide into three distinctive eras. Nonetheless, in order to reflect on one’s life we must start from the beginning.

He sings the Ancient Star Song that states that the Singer is the son of the Earthmaker. He gains many followers and critics, but he sings the same song. The World Hater is the Devil. He tempts the Singer in the dessert and the Singer sees the World Hater in many people. The Singer dies on the death machine because people do not believe in him. Just like Jesus the Singer is resurrected proving he is the son of the Earthmaker. The Singer is a well done modern depiction of Jesus because it pulls descriptions of Jesus from all four Gospels.

His younger brother and uncle were also preachers. Religion had a big influence on his life. King grew up in a neighborhood of average citizens. No great wealth or possessions, leaders, or anyone of great stature. His best friends were religious, attended Sunday school together and church which King was considered their second home.
