My previous two columns have focused on the story of my short-lived involvement with a group of investors seeking to purchase Marvel Comics in January, 1998. As I related last time, my role in examining the Marvel documents was to analyze the licensing division with an eye as to how much potential revenue we could anticipate from this area. In the end, I had to tell my fellow investors that there really wasn't a whole lot of licensing potential left. Either the rights were hopelessly entangled due to bungling on the part of Marvel's legal staff, or that most of the decent licensing properties had already been sold for many years forward, in exchange for upfront cash payments in previous years.

Jeffrey Dahmer carried out his task in a more drawn-out process, as opposed to Grendel’s simpler, less systematic mode of operation. Dahmer, for the most part, would go to gay clubs, public baths, or other places his sort of victim would frequent so he could pursue and allure them. Then, after getting drunk, he’d crush up a small handful of sleeping pills to render his prey unconscious, following this with either fulfilling his own urges or by strangling them. He’d then rape many of the resulting corpses, dismember them, occasionally eat some flesh, and soak the body in acid to liquefy the flesh. He’d occasionally preserve heads, limbs, or bones and keep them around the apartment to eat and pleasure himself to later. All of this, in total, would be a several-week-long process. Grendel, conversely, took the more expeditious approach. He’d simply wait for the warriors to fall asleep after their partying, sneak in, smash or throw people around the mead hall, and quickly leave. In April of 1861, the American Civil War broke out. In June of 2006, the Marvel Civil War broke out. 145 years of separation still bind these two seemingly unrelated events. The nonfiction and fiction worlds may come across as totally different. One involves actual American heroes fighting over abolition versus slavery and federal versus states’ rights while the other involves fictional American superheroes fighting over freedom versus security, individual rights versus the need for regulation. More specifically, the Marvel Civil War was caused by a controversial Superhero Registration Act that required all superheroes to register themselves under the government as government agents.

In cases like these there is usually a common link: Antisocial Personality disorder. It is an unknown disorder to most of the population which is why there are so many questions to be answered, the main ones being what is antisocial personality disorder and how does it effect patient and society as a whole? And again, behaves in a way that neither Macbeth nor Banquo would behave and shows how unselfish he is, Macduff acts in a way unmotivated by greed and power. The final idea supporting Macduff’s heroism is his willingness to abandon his own family for the love of his country, which result in his family’s death and causes him obvious pain but Macduff remains sensible and motivates himself to do what is best for his country. While some may place family above country, I see his willingness to place Scotland above all else a testament of his loyalty selflessness. Every child in the United States has heard or read the Marvel and DC comics books. If you have not then you have probably have heard of their characters like the famous star spangled hero, Captain America, or the Dark Knight himself, Batman. Both Marvel and DC has influenced the children and adults of American in its darkest times. The great wars affected many by its poisonous grasps, and its victims sought comfort with the antidote provided by the marvelous illustrators and writers of comic books. Now their cinematic counterparts are here to inspire the 21st century. The Marvel and DC cinematic universes have similar content, they both have unique characteristics that set them apart.
The case describes how soon after Iger took over as CEO at Disney, he reached out and reconciled relationships with the Weinstein brothers by making a settlement payment. In this instance I would argue that Iger implemented a problem solving approach. The Weinstein brothers may have received a payment of $100 million but Disney kept the Miramax name and film library worth $2 billion. It would appear that the brothers got what they thought was fair payment and Disney kept a lucrative business asset. Iger also reconciled relationships with Steve Jobs and Pixar by adding Jobs to the Disney Board of Directors.
One feature of evidence based practice is a problem-solving approach that draws on nurses’ experience to identify a problem or potential diagnosis. After a problem is identified, evidence based practice can be used to come up with interventions and possible risks involved with each intervention. Next, nurses will use the knowledge and theory to do clinical research and decide on the appropriate intervention. The Body Shop International case is an interesting case study into the miscommunication of owners and stockholder interests with regard to financial conditions. Anita Roddick, the founder of The Body Shop had no financial experience and thought that all she needed to do was expand her business and the financing would take shape as she developed her business. While Anita’s product concept of a natural skin-care line was good; her lack of experience in financial matters took its toll on her business.

Change the word man to woman, and all of those uncomfortable feelings change to normal and nothing out of the ordinary. How can this be? Everyone has experienced that unpleasant sensation of fear creeping into their bodies at least one time in their life. Maybe it was watching a horror movie or walking through an unfamiliar part of town at night, but this sensation is unlike any other feeling that humans can produce. It can become the most important survival instinct that a person can rely on. Although, in our day and age, as Dr. Karl Albrecht states, "Fear seems to have gotten a bad rap amongst most human beings." Fear is certainly not the most popular feeling and emotion that occurs in humans. People today view fear as a nuisance, and it tends to be regarded as a quality of the weak and helpless. With the education of knowing that fear is essential, people would discover that fear can quickly become any human’s most valuable resource. An analysis of fear, and recognizing its importance, confirms why fear is still needed in humans for survival today.
