Introduction to Marriages
Marriage has been a large part of our lives for as long as we can remember. It is all about the new beginnings and new life with your loved ones. A commonly known definition of marriage is, “state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law” (Webster, n.d.). Everyone has their own definition of marriage. For many it is a form of commitment between two individuals who vow to be there for one another no matter what the situations they face, where as to others it may be something as simple as just a ceremony or sexuality. Arranged marriage is a marriage in which the husband and the wife are chosen for each other by their parents, friends or possibly their relatives. Where as, love marriage is when two people fall in love and at a point they mutually decide to make their relationship official and get married. There are many other types of marriages as well such as, Endogamy marriage where one marries someone from the same ethic group or exogamy marriage when one marries someone outside of their ethic group. There is also child marriages, which still exists in some parts of the county India. Child marriage is when both the husband and wife are still children or either one of them is still a child and is married off by their parents. Where as, to this day same-sex marriage is still a controversial topic. Same sex marriage is between the same sex, a female and a female or a male and male. On the other hand, as unbelievable as this may sound a marriage such as Ghost marriage exists. Marriage normally is recognized with a ceremony, which has been going on for years in every society known as the wedding. Overtime, Unites States has adopted the pattern of marriage from the northwestern Europe. However, the whole concept of marriage has taken several different forms and has changed over the years. This is because of the some major difference back in the days versus now concerning marriage. In United States, during the early 1900’s most marriages were quite practical which involved family alliances and property.
