The holiday season is a critical time for retailers. On average, approximately 30 percent of all sales have traditionally occurred between the Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas, with jewelers and certain other retailers reporting that the holiday season accounted for 40 percent or more of their total annual sales. In recent years, an increasing number of shoppers have been turning to e-commerce sites instead of brick-and-mortar stores for their holiday shopping. For 2016, e-commerce sales are expected to increase by almost 14 percent although total retail sales are expected to increase by only 3 percent. If the predictions prove true, 2016 could be the first holiday season in which e-commerce 's share of holiday sales exceeds 10 percent. …show more content…
Successful e-commerce retailers consider a variety of unusual factors when planning their holiday marketing messages. For example, younger males comprise a substantial portion of last-minute shoppers, and they are more likely to be focused on simply getting through their chores, frequently ignoring promotions and sales. Focusing on how easily they can complete their holiday shopping may be a better marketing message than delivering a digital coupon. Weather conditions can affect sales significantly; research has shown that online sales increase when the weather is inclement, so some retailers increase their marketing efforts on days when snow, sleet or extremely low temperatures are keeping many shoppers at home. Other online retailers are looking more at items that could be purchased together than at items that have traditionally been bought at the same …show more content…
According to one study, approximately 50 percent of all shoppers balk at paying for standard shipping although they are willing to pay for upgraded, faster shipping. During the 2015 holiday season, one study found that 78 percent of all retailers offered free shipping of some type; the most common offering was free standard shipping if the order exceeded a specific amount. Such an approach can encourage shoppers to purchase multiple items from the same site in order to meet the minimum requirement for free

Key Issues The growing popularity of online retailing is attracting competition from traditional and online multi-retailers such as Wal-Mart and Amazon, which are gaining considerable market shares in many of the product segments included in the specialty retail sector. Currently, the majority of revenue is generated by store sales, but online sales from the stores’ websites are increasing. With the US dollar getting weaker, international sales from these US based websites are increasing too. This creates a significant positive outlook for the large incumbent players but also acts as a significant barrier of entry for new players.
E-commerce firms are gearing up for cyber Monday deals this year. The day falls in December 2 after the thanksgiving. However, most online traders usually start their Cyber Monday deals long before the actual period. Statistics have shown that about 75% of online shoppers usually start their shopping on the preceding day. In year 2012, Cyber Monday sales hit a whopping $1.7 billion up from $ 1.3 billion in year 2011. This was over 20% rise from sales in year 2010. In other interesting statistics, over 60% of online shoppers at this period will be under 40. There is thus little time to spare for e commerce manager. It is crucial to work on the tasks below before opening the store. Due to the holiday rush, more problems may result.
“In our culture, Black Friday has become more and more of a thing each year, also, Cyber Monday has increased over the past 3-4 years with key deals online. Small business Saturday has also became more
Being a writer isn’t a complicated task, but being a messageful writer requires lot of experience and inner self-presentation. James Baldwin was a very great writer. He expresses his inner feeling into his writing, which makes him true writer. When ever he wrote something always contain some kind of message. Most of his writing about African American culture where he raised. His writing tells the story of pain. He painted cruel history of black community into his writing. His writing contains lot of pain and anger, which could only describe by his writing. He was a one of the leader who speeches his nation by his writing. After reading his piece of art, which was presented via short stories and many books, I have come to perceive James Baldwin as a legendary writer. Through his short stories, Baldwin expresses the truth about his life. It seems that most of Baldwin's life was spent during times of extreme racism and he was strongly discriminated against due to his racial and ethnic background. Some of his stories were written in the middle of 19th century, a time when American citizens were distinguished by their color. It was a time when black and white people had their own separate worlds in which they were living. It was very hard to break the narrow-minded ways of many racist people. In other words, there was a self-created border between both races. In his stories, "Previous Condition" and "Sonny's Blues," Baldwin has developed characters to fight against racism in attempts to live their lives as they please.

Nightmares before Christmas by Bob Tedeschi stated that, “According to Jupiter Communications, the top Internet retailers can each expect to process 58,000 orders each day, and they will have to impress upon warehouse workers the urgency of picking, packing and shipping as if the entire business were at stake.” With increasing demand during the holidays, each business strives to meet the overwhelming requests desired by the customers. Both Sensing and Tedeschi stress the importance of stocking in on supplies. When businesses cannot meet the extensive demand, it can negatively impacts the business and it's future sales: “breakdowns [can] jeopardize [a business's] next year's sales,” (Nightmares before Christmas, Bob
As the holidays season is upon us again, year after year this winter season yields inevitable facts— chilly weather, Christmas decorations, and Turkey dinners. However, in the not too distant past, Black Friday has been added onto this long string of traditions next to the boughs of holly decking the halls. Now, instead of enjoying a good night’s rest after a hearty meal, individuals set their clocks earlier and earlier to beat this year’s mob. Instead of chipping family time out of Thanksgiving, Black Friday should not hinder consumers’ and clerks’ time but rather allow one to take advantage of sales on the day of Thanksgiving.
Apex offers many trips and classes that range from 4 hour periods, to multi day expeditions. One major challenge is how to attract both new, and existing clientele that mostly participate in day trips, to more intensive multi day excursions. Fortunately, there are several marketing strategies that can be utilized to aid in this process. These include, guerrilla marketing, the use of social media, determining target areas and demographics, offering incentives to clientele, as well as active community involvement from the Apex team.
First of all, there are many advertising can easily grab the consumers’ attention with something like ‘price appeals’. For instance, some of the advertiser like to create a sense of urgency with limited time offers to manipulate consumers. It basically explains that people are more emotionally attached to lose out on something than gaining it because no one likes to lose out on an amazing deal that is limited time offer. If the product is not bought before the end of the limited time offer, there is no other opportunity to purchase the product for lower price. Everyone loves sale price. If the products come out with lower prices such as buy six only for 20 dollars, the consumers would not satisfy just to buy six, conversely, they would feel more comfortable and satisfy, if they buy more than six. Therefore, they all would buy more and more than they should like grabbing all the things home. That is called crazy shopping. Besides, advertising something like ‘buy one get one free’ is also known as amazing deal that can control consumers’ desire to buy even more. This promotion is way too attractive to the consumers to get into it because it is interesting and catchy if there is something free. Nobody can ...
Internationally the share of online sales in retail is growing, driven by the increased sales in existing online retailers as well as by the market entry and expansion by traditional bricks-and-mortar retailers into eCommerce (Hübner, Holzapfel & Kuhn 2016:256). Conversely, online retailers are accelerating their expansion into bricks-and-mortar retailing. One such example is the merger between Amazon and Whole Foods Markets, a $13.7bn agreement under which Amazon will acquire Whole Foods Markets in an all cash transaction. This deal accelerates Amazon’s establishment of a bricks-and-mortar footprint, allowing it to reduce delivery lead times and last mile delivery costs (Retailanalysis 2017).
