The Life of Marilyn Monroe From the year 1946 when Marilyn Monroe signed her first film contract, she quickly rose to fame through the movies she played in. By the 1950’s, Monroe had become a household name, gaining popularity for her role in “The Asphalt Jungle” (1950). Monroe’s roles typically had her play the character of a witty and charming “blonde bombshell”, a role which she played well due to her similar personality. Her iconic movies, which stole the hearts of Americans everywhere, led Monroe to be titled Hollywood’s sex symbol. Despite her popularity, Monroe was not treated fairly by both her employers and by regular people. Without her father and mother, she was forced to live in foster homes, some of which Monroe experienced emotional and sexual abuse in. She had lived in a total of 12 foster homes and an orphanage before she married her boyfriend, James Dougherty, at the age of 16. Only a few years after her first marriage, Monroe started her career in acting. Monroe’s new acting career soon brought her recognition across the country, but also led to her divorce from her first husband to prevent any pregnancies from ruining her newfound career. With quickly rising popularity and many job opportunities, Monroe reached the peak of her career in the mid to late 1950’s, starring in her most famous films “Some Like It Hot” and “The Seven Year Itch”. In her adulthood she won awards such as Playboy Playmate of the Month (1953) and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (1960). Despite her nationwide recognition for her beauty and acting skills, Monroe was believed by many to be paid an unfair amount for the money she brought in for her roles in hit
