An important fact about worker demographics in Maquiladora factories, is that women make up a large portion of workers. The workforce in the Maquiladoras is mostly made up of women because of the “meticulous” work involved in the assembling process (Wise 2013). The work happen to not be very meticulous, but factories are paying these workers less money because of their gender. Many of these women have families to take care of and are not paid enough to provide their family with the things they need. For instance, a woman worker from Matamoros makes about forty-five dollars a week and has to support her six children, who are all under the age of fourteen (Wise 2003).
