"Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall." The pursuit of becoming an Information Management Professional entitles the responsibility to change the way the business world thinks about the enterprise, information and technology. To begin with, a professional can pursue a career in Information Management, when the aspiration of that pursuit is a blend of both business and technological sciences. Every business professional and every business is dealing with lightning-fast changes and long-term uncertainties. The main focus lies on the cumulative inter personal skills gained by the individual along with excellence in aptitude and logistics. The two key terms 'Information Management ' and 'Leadership ' are disparate concepts that converges at one point when a person evolves into a professional. By this I mean that, a student aspiring to take up an analyst role in a consulting firm should possess the required inter personal skill set along with a strong …show more content…
'Leadership ' in any field is less about your own needs, and more about the needs of the team and the organization you are leading. Leadership styles are not something to be tried on like so many suits, to see which fits. Rather, they should be adapted to the particular demands of the situation, the particular requirements of the team involved and the specific challenges faced by the firm. All leadership styles can become part of the leader 's repertoire. Having robust skills in multiple areas opens up a whole new world of possibilities for success. Leaders should adapt more easily, erase shortcomings, collaborate more successfully and become far more valuable to your organization. Leaders are responsible for building a team, maintaining cohesiveness in the team, nurturing skill set from the team members and sustaining a cordial environment with other
A well- rounded leader can be flexible in any situation given to him or her. I personally feel that I possess leadership characteristics well. I do not only possess leadership qualities for myself, but also to set an example for others. By doing this I might aid them in expressing their leadership qualities, no matter their field of interest. As I help others, they might see it in themselves to aid others in finding their leadership qualities.
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink is a proverb I have heard since I was young. Leadership is the skill of influencing people to accomplish goals (Huber, 2014). In today’s world with policy and technological changes the leaders must use their leadership skills to not only get the horse to the water, have him drink, but also do it with a smile an invite others to join him. Leaders use a variety of styles to accomplish their goals. I will discuss the leadership style that I utilize most often, how my style relates to leadership theories and the work type environment it is most useful in.
What is the leadership style? The meaning of the leadership and style may differ from a person, situation, and the other. The word 'leadership' has been use in various aspects of human endeavour such as social works, politics, academics, businesses and other. Furthermore, previous views about the leadership can show it as personal ability. (Messick and Kramer, 2004) A leader is a person who inspires, motivates and leads people to complete the organizational goals. Leadership style play a very important role, leadership style also emphasizes the need for a manager to find his leadership style and improve his leadership style.
...ram, I have also learned that it takes a combination of leadership styles and taking scenarios case by case to perform as an effective leader. My preferences would be a combination of transformational and transactional leadership. Since I work in processing, the transactional part of my leadership will have to be there, but I would strive to add leading with integrity, a shared vision, and being humble among staff members. I hold myself accountable just as I would with other team members. I understand that this approach will not always work, because situations will change and call for different types of leadership, but for the most part a combination of transactional and transformational leadership would be the most effective in the majority of situations at work.
It is the nature, vision, and upbringing of the leader which helps them to determine which leadership theory fits them the most. A leader is the one who helps others to accomplish the goals. If there is any kind of intervention in the leadership style then most probably it would fail as the employee would be no more interested to work under the leader. A leader is someone who inspires others, helps them to view a goal and motivates them to achieve the goal. In a workplace, leaders come and go but the important thing is that leader who inspires others will leave a mark for the lifetime. Being a leader is not a difficult job, but leadership faces a jeopardy situation when a leader is incapable to answering the why and how questions. So, one should be very careful while acting as a
Before defining leadership style one must define exactly what is leadership? There are many interpretations of leadership as well as leadership styles but one common term pertaining to leadership is the ability to influence others to achieve a common goal or vision. Leadership is not an innate characteristic, but a complex suite of competencies, personal attributes and vision that requires development via education, exposure to work and issues, role modelling and mentoring with existing leaders. (Huges, Ginnett, Curphy, 1999)
“Leadership, very simple, is about two things 1) truth and trust 2) ceaselessly seeking the former, relentlessly building the latter “
"Mistakes will be made. But if a person is essentially right, the mistakes he or she makes are not as serious in the long run as the mistakes management will make if it undertakes to tell those in authority exactly how they must do their jobs. Management that is destructively critical when mistakes are made kills initiative."
Leadership skills are essential for those who wish to lead change in an organisation. According to Kouzes and Posner leadership is a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow (2007). How this relationship works can be a determining factor in the success of a project or indeed an organisation. Not everyone is a born leader, but leadership skills can be developed and many theorists have come up with strategies and processes that can be followed to achieve this goal. Kouzes and Posner outlined a very successful 5 step model called the leadership challenge. Their theory is based on many decades of research that discovered that organisations, communities and individuals can and will
I like the fact that the teacher pointed out that leadership can be found everywhere. Leaders don't necessarily exist only in a company where there are a lot of people following you. “Everyone has the potential and possibility to be a leader”. They could be the best at inspiring others, or best at solving problems or dealing with criticism. By and large we all have the necessities to lead and I find, during the group discussions, that the difference and uniqueness of us that give us our own perspective to view and do things. Leadership is also about understanding and combining many different talents and to make them work together to create the best result. There are many kinds of leaders out there, and so many leadership styles. Yet I think we shouldn’t categorised ourselves into one or identify our superiors into one. Why? Because I think it is crucial to be flexible and adapt to which way to lead according to the situations For example, the Democratic style maybe the most popular and most effective, yet it is proved to be counter-productive in urgent occasions requiring instant and firm decisions from one person only, and that is the

“As a leader, your job is to make those people successful. It’s less about trying to be successful (yourself), and more about making sure you have good people and your work is to remove that barrier, removing roadblocks for them so that they can be successful in what they do”.
In today’s complex management environment, I believe that the mindset of a manger weigh the same as their views and attitude on the job. Certainly, Jonathan Gosling an established scholar and the director of the Centre for Leadership Studies at the University of Exeter provide an excellent view on the diverse talent requirements in effective management. The main issue identified by the author is the connection between leadership and management. Separation of management and leadership is impractical. However not all good leaders are good managers and vice versa. Gosling, and Mintzberg (2003), argues that management without leadership promotes uninspired behavior, which hinders business activities. On the other hand, leadership devoid of management results in disconnect of actions and ideas. I concur with the author’s argument on the relationship between management and leadership. I believe that good managers should be good leaders too. However, most organizations do not enjoy both the benefits of effective leadership and management. In particular, most organizations lack either of these ...
“The important word there is inspire. The key difference between managers and leaders is that managers tell people what to do, while leaders inspire them to do it. Inspiration comes from three things: clarity of one’s vision, courage of their conviction and the ability to effectively communicate both of those things”
Probably the most difficult part of leadership is to know what leadership style is best to use, by carefully evaluating their own skills and the situation a good leader can adjust the leadership style as needed to be effective as possible. This requires the leader to be flexible and adapt as needed to maximize the
