In December of 1974, his partner Allen was on his way to visit
Gates when along the way he stopped to browse a magazine. After he
saw that, it changed his and Bill Gates's lives forever. On the cover
of Popular Electronics was a picture of the Altair 8080 and the
headline "World's First Microcomputer Kit to Rival Commercial
Models." He bought the issue and rushed to Gates's room. They both
recognized it was a great opportunity for business and their business
brain started to work. They knew that the home computer market was
about to explode and that someone would need to make software for the
new machines.
Within a few days, Gates had called MITS (Micro Instrumentation and
Telemetry Systems), the makers of the Altair. He told the company
that he and Allen had developed a BASIC that could be used on the
Altair [Teamgates.com, 9/29/96]. They had not even written a line of
code. They had neither an Altair nor the chip that ran the computer.

From this interview, I could find out that he is going to make his

forecast that his product and his business will be even more
successful.

Business at the Speed of Thought¨
At just twenty years old, Bill Gates cofounded Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen. He is now the richest man in the world with over $85.2 billion to his name. So why did Microsoft end up being way more successful than any computer program like it? The answer is because of the free enterprise system, and competition. Gate's product was considered new and innovative at the time, which made customers want to try it out.
It started with two teenagers who envisioned an endless world of possibilities for the world of computing at an early stage. Paul Allen and Bill Gates were two high school students who attended Lakeside their dreams of one day being computer moguls started with a word processor, the Teletype Model 33 that they played with and programmed. It was brought from a rummage sale that the Mothers club attended. It was located in the activity room at their private school in Washington.
"Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose." -Bill Gates (Bill 1). Microsoft Windows, as of October 2013, is used by approximately 85 percent of all laptops and desktops worldwide (StatCounter 1). The Windows operating system is the pride and joy of the programmer, inventor, and co-founder of Microsoft, William Henry Gates III. His impact on the world has been astronomical resulting in many advancements in science and technology that just wouldn’t have been possible without him. In order to fully understand his significance and influence in the world, one must be knowledgeable of his background, the critics view of his most famous achievement, and must have a discussion about his impact and importance in the modern world.
Becoming the richest man in the world, Bill Gates is one of the most influential men. Not only is Bill Gates one of the most influential figures in the world, but he is also one of the most influential figures in the business world. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. Gates was born into already well established family. “His father, William Henry Gates Jr., was a successful lawyer, and his mother, Mary Maxwell, was chairwoman of United Way International.”(Stevenson).

Let’s take a trip back in time and review the evolution of a computer company. It’s not IBM or Microsoft. This company is Apple Computers, Incorporated. In the year 1976, before most people even thought about buying a computer for their homes. Back then the computer community was only a few nerds building simple computers from hobby kits. When Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs sold a van and two programmable calculators for thirteen hundred dollars and started Apple Computers, Inc., in Jobs garage, the reach for success seemed far.
Microsoft’s mission of placing a “PC running Microsoft software on every desk and in every home” drove their overall strategy early on. Depending on the business segment within Microsoft, one would see in place very different business models as the strategy for each line of business could vary. In the operating system (OS) segment, Microsoft initially brought in an existing product and modified this (MS-DOS) to work with the Intel microprocessor, which were the “brains” of the IBM PC. Microsoft partnered with IBM to provide the operating system for the IBM PC. In addition to developing Windows, Microsoft during this period was working to write applications for the Apple OS.
In order to lead and be successful you have to be willing to embrace change. Myatt (2012) explained that “leadership demands fluidity, which requires the willingness to recognize the need for change, and finally, the ability to lead change”. Change needs to be recognized in every organization. Organizations must undergo change to subsist. Each area of an organization needs to be assessed to lead change properly. Lastly, the change process must be managed. It is demanding that change agents are arranged for success and not failure by providing them with the proper tools, talent, resources, responsibility and authority necessary for the job (Myatt, 2012).
He had helped IBM with an operating system for their new personal computer coming out soon. “In order to meet the IBM deadline, Gates paid $50,000 for the rights to a rudimentary operating system called "Q-DOS" ("quick and dirty operating system") designed by a Seattle programmer. Gates and his team made some adjustments to the system and added some new features, renaming the result MS-DOS (after Microsoft)”(McGuire 1). Bill Gates had made his first operating system which was the kickstart to his new company called Microsoft. One problem he went through was when his amazing success brought him to court.
Bill Gates had done the seemingly impossible. This one man has changed the way we all think; he did it with his passion and his intelligence. This world runs on computers because of what he revolutionized, he was at times controversial, but, he was a very talented businessman.

There is no such thing as a “born leader”. Human, animals, trees, and all of other living things survive and develop by earning and acquiring information needed. Nothing could receive the current position or status from an automatic mode.
Microsoft was originally created in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. They first introduced their software package, Window 1.0 in 1983, the first package to consist of a mouse which helps navigate a PC. MS-DOS commands were previously used to operate computer systems, however people found these extremely hard to understand. This Windows 1.0 package was a key turning point in Microsoft emergence. As time progressed Microsoft created updated versions which consisted of advanced graphics, built-in internet support, dial-up networking and much more (Microsoft, 2011). Windows packages started from Window 1.0 to the current version whic...
