Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell was trying to convey that successful people such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and the Beatles were famous due to external factors such as birthplace, family status and right timing. Basically saying that it's not just the hardest working people who become successful. It’s the ones who were graced with the right opportunities and that successful people are the ones who take advantage of them. I have strong feelings about this topic and felt myself disagreeing with a lot of the books ideas and concepts. What is talent? I see to many people around me say this certain person is just naturally talented. Are they, though? Or is it someone working there behind of in silence. I believe that no one is born talented, everyone is born equal and there is the rare few that choose to be an “outlier”, I feel this is a person who separates them from the pack. Someone who walks alone on their journey. These are the people who sacrifice their time, heart and soul to there desired passion. I think it's the outliers who get those “special opportunities that others don’t get. While everyone's out partying, the outliers are silently working towards their dream. They are the ones who don't care what others may think, and all they want to do is get to their ultimate goal. I think there are more components than just the duration of your practice which is working hard, working smartly and working consistently. I strongly believe that quality is better than quantity and that someone who has trained for 5,000 hours with all 3 components above is just as likely as someone with 10,000 hours of half hearted practise.
