Can we all make a difference? Millions of humans must be on earth for a reason. We are here for a purpose. Whether it's big or small, everyone makes a difference. Differences are made through entertainment, everyday life, and personal life. Thomas Edison created useful contraptions for everyday life. Oprah Winfrey teaches people to persevere through tough situations. Dr. Manette represents the good in everyone. We all contribute to the society in one way or another.
Thomas Edison was an inventor. He created an abundance of things that have improved our lifestyles today. He has invented tools and gadgets that we use for work and entertainment. Three of the well known products he's invented include the phonograph, motion picture camera and light bulb. (Edison, n.d.) The phonograph provided entertainment by playing music for people. The motion picture camera enabled people to capture memories that would last a lifetime. The light bulb provided attainable light. With just the flip of a switch, there was light. People did not depend on the sun as much. Thomas Edison wouldn't have invented all of these things if he gave up on the first try. He was dedicated and persistent. "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time"(Edison, n.d.). Thomas Edison's failure lead to his success. Clearly, he made an impact on society, but he wasn't the only one. Many more have contributed to society.
Oprah Winfrey is an inspiration to many people. Her life is living proof that things do get better with hard work and dedication. She had a very rough childhood. She was born into a broken family, her parents were never married. She was abused by her family. She became pregnant at the age of fourteen but lost the baby. You think all of these struggles and problems would stop her from living life, but no. She kept moving forward. Now she has her own television show. She is a philanthropist. She is where she is in life because she never gave up."Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it" (Winfrey, n.d.). She teaches society that nothing should come in your way.
