Thomas Edison was an inventor. He created an abundance of things that have improved our lifestyles today. He has invented tools and gadgets that we use for work and entertainment. Three of the well known products he's invented include the phonograph, motion picture camera and light bulb. (Edison, n.d.) The phonograph provided entertainment by playing music for people. The motion picture camera enabled people to capture memories that would last a lifetime. The light bulb provided attainable light. With just the flip of a switch, there was light. People did not depend on the sun as much. Thomas Edison wouldn't have invented all of these things if he gave up on the first try. He was dedicated and persistent. "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time"(Edison, n.d.). Thomas Edison's failure lead to his success. Clearly, he made an impact on society, but he wasn't the only one. Many more have contributed to society.

Actually, I want everyone to talk about racism. Only by talking about it can we begin the process of overcoming past and present injustices.

It's true that we all need to make a difference in times of crisis and need, but we also need to strive to make a difference each day. I know that I can make a difference in the lives of many people by simply lending a helping hand or showing kindness to others. I try to take the time to cheer up my grandmother and older friends in the nursing home by paying them a visit. I know my parents stay very busy and it helps them out when I come home and lend a helping hand without being asked. I can help a friend with their homework, or sometimes help by just being there to listen to them.
Thomas (Alva) Edison was one of America’s most important and famous inventors. Edison was born into a time and place where there wasn’t much technological advancements. Thomas Edison is widely regarded as one of the most influential inventors and innovators of the Twentieth Century. Edison’s efforts ushered in a new era of technology; a world in which electricity would be harnessed and made to bow before man’s will. Walter Lippman wrote, “It is impossible to measure the importance of Edison by adding up the specific inventions with which his name is associated” (qtd. in Baldwin 409). Edison’s decades long career was a synergistic melding of his success as an inventor and his prowess as a promoter and businessman. He exemplified the ideals of intelligence married to hard work and perseverance. He forever changed the landscape of American invention and the limits of technological change (Baldwin 409).
