As a famous quote by Doug Floyd: You don’t get harmony when everybody sings the same note. This clearly shows that every individual has to play their own role in the society to unite the nation. Looking around the globe, we have numerous of countries of different ethnicity and tradition. Malaysia is the land of multilingual, multiracial, multicultural and multi-religious societies. However we still live in harmony without any conflicts and bloodshed. For example, Malaysia is a nation well-known for the diversity of its people. The people live together in peace under one nation despite the differences of religion, culture, language and more. Without unity, sovereignty and independence of the country will be lost in a blink of eyes. One of the initiatives in maintaining harmony in a multiracial society is depending on an individual's attitude. This is because the prosperity of a community generally depends on the individual. Each individual should tolerates and respects each other in order to nourish harmony within the society. Every citizen must inculcates moral values in their daily lives. With the pure-practitioner attitude within the community in Malaysia, the life of multi-racial society will always in peace and harmony. For example, we can held an open house to celebrate festivals like Chinese New Year. We should not chase away a neighbor even though they are not of the same religion. Similarly, unity lessens hostility, hatred, conflict, mistrust, destruction and ruins; rather it consolidates cooperation, trust, brotherhood, friendship and so on. If people are united, they certainly contribute to the development of the country because of the spirit of patriotism; and they can intensify their steps for the advancement of the country. If they are aptly united, they enhance the spirit of 'We', but not 'I'. This builds up and boosts up the rights and freedom of the people. It won't be exaggeration to say that harmony within diversity absolutely intensifies human prosperity. As a first step in cherishing harmony, people should mingle and promote understanding between races. In that case, parents should always apply the values of solidarity in their kids since tender age. Children are encouraged to communicate with neighbors of different races and parents are also encouraged to bring their children to a neighbor's house during the holiday or celebration.
