"Hi, my name is Jamal. I'm a tall, gorgeous black man with a bod made for sin. Talk to me!"
"Hi, I'm India, an exotic prostitute with a fondness for short, Norwegian men."
"Harry here . . . I'm handsome and shy, and looking for love. . ."
"My name is Sophie, and my job as a songwriter has led me to the great city of Miami."
"Hello, I'm Lila. I am a 24-year old Jazz singer with a preference for foreign men. If you qualify, definitely say hi."
The people you see above are very interesting individuals, all unique and distinctive. At first glance, there seems to be no common thread that connects them, except for the fact that they appear to be seeking some sort of interaction. No, these are not entries in a Personals Column or members of a support group for the love-lost. All of them do, however, share a very important characteristic. They are all facets of the same person; they are all descriptions of me.
No, I am not schizophrenic or insane; I am simply one of the many that has found entertainment exploring a MUD-- an acronym that stands for Multiple User Domain or Multi User Dungeon. Before this assignment, I had no idea that MUD was something other than dirt mixed with water or that the world that existed on-line was so immense and so popular. In fact, MUDding has become one of the most sought after forms of interactive entertainment in the world, engaging tens of thousands of players (Leslie 28).
The world of MUDding seems like a relatively new concept, but the truth is that MUDs have been around for years. Invented at the University of Essex in England in 1979, MUDs served as a computerized way to play Dungeons and Dragons, a popular and addictive role-playing game that mesmerized thousands (Rigdon R16). While the undisputed thrill of participating in such a game was the ability to reshape identity, other attracting factors were the relationships that a player could develop with fellow characters. Today, both adventure-type MUDs and social MUDs work in the much same way that Dungeons and Dragons did 20 years ago--players take on an identity and enter a fantasy world, only now they can communicate with people from around the globe. This type of role-playing sounds like simple fun, but the underlying issues and complex social situations that materialize are more than just child's play.
Sports, Violence and Alcohol - Three things considered to be in line with masculinity, Along with alot of things considered to be primal instinct. In america the prevalence and Sports, Violence and Beer exceeds most others leading to the general conclusion that America’s men are overall muscle bound meatheads who enjoy nothing but their primal urges. Clearly this is false but still an assumption made by those who only know these three things. As technology advances a new element of entertainment emerges, containing violence, sports and entertainment, Its videogames. Video Games muster together Guns, Violence, Sex, Alcohol, Sports and more Violence. From this description its easy to see why this would be a male oriented activity. At the time girls were still expected to be relatively lady-like. Yet as the years pass by, girls begin to play the video games which guys have been playing for years this causes a disparity between male and female gamers in the upcoming years.
Dungeons and Dragons (“D&D”, the “Property ”) is a fantasy role-playing game that encourages players to imagine adventures. Each player can choose from one of the seven character classes, each has its own traits and specialties, to become its alter ego throughout the adventure. A Dungeon Master, who sets out rules, guides the players in their adventure and governs the game. The game comprises of an “entire universe of settings, rules, creatures and artifacts disseminated in books, magazines and other publications [.] (Sweetpea vs. Hasbro, 2013)” In 1974, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson published the first D&D under Tactical Studies Rules, Inc., later became TSR, Inc. (“TSR”).
Race is a huge issue in the film and many stereotypes are made. Jamal Wallace is introduced in the film as a typical black teenage male who goes to a low class school in the Bronx and really excels on the court as a basketball player. He always plays basketball with his friends in a parking lot. Jamal is dared to go into the apartment of a recluse who watches them play through binoculars. Jamal is caught and, running away in fright
"If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? I know that you aren't from around this area with an accent like that."
Watson, J. (2001). Jean Watson: Theory of human caring. In M.E. Parker (Ed.), Nursing theories and nursing practice (pp. 343-354). Philadelphia: Davis.
“Hey, you!” said a voice far down in the hallway. “So you’re the new girl, huh?”
She proposed that caring and love are universal and mysterious (Wagner, 2010). Watson believes that health professionals make moral, social, and scientific contributions to humanity and that a nurses' caring ideal can affect human development (Wagner, 2010). Watson believes that it is imperative in today's society to maintain a caring ideology in practice (Wagner, 2010). Caring is a concept that focuses on having a respectful, non-judgmental, supportive attitude that contributes to the healing process. Watson's theory, in relationship to the metaparadigm of nursing, focuses on the relationship between the nurse and the patient (Wagner, 2010). According to Watson's theory, the nurse and patient form a caring relationship where both the patient and the nurse promote healing (Wagner, 2010). In general, the theory of caring reminds us that a nurse can have a great impact on the life of a patient. If I were to add a new conceptual metaparadigm, it would be the concept of caring since I firmly believe that without caring it will be almost impossible to have wellness at all. If I were to choose one metaparadigm concept to eliminate, I would opt to remove the concept of health since I think that in the concepts of caring and nursing the individual's health should be fully
A Registered nurse is strongly committed to provide meticulous optimum care to the client. Every nurse has to have the attitude of caring, patience and dedication. Being autonomous in nursing is very important while making decisions and practice and which can be obtained by continual education. According to Potter and Perry (eds 2009), Accountability refers to responsibility of the nurse professionally and legally for the provided care. Trusted professional relationship is strongly built by effective communication. Communication with patient, family and multidisciplinary is essential for quality nursing care to the client. Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team enhances the quality of care significantly. Often nurse acts as a liaison between patient and other health care members in that team. Trust is a basic value and in a trusted environment patient feels free to share honestly to the nurse. Ultimately, trusting relationships enhance quality and safe health care (Olshansky 2011). For example, Respecting patient’s value and beliefs is vital to create trustful relationship. Professional practice has some unique characteristics with it such as code of ethics for practice, dignity, specific service, extended education. Being professional nurses, they should have adequate theoretical knowledge and skills and practice within their legal frame. Nurses are not the persons just listening the words but they are the persons can give a solution by feeling empathetically which means feeling from patient’s side. A nurse should be stable emotionally and think critically are essential to analyze the problem and make appropriate ...
He smiled. "That is from the 'Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.' Here's another one. 'In the room the women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?"
“True, that he’s no Prince Charming, but there’s something in him that I simply didn’t see.”
The traditional way of socializing limits our ability to meet other people around the world. Virtual interactions offers a more possible means to communicate in today's society. Furthermore, the growth of the video game community such as in the genre of MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) allows for a high level medium that enable individuals to create small factions and perform social interactions. According to Bishop, "The existence of such communities is often brought about by people who share similar goals, beliefs or values, with such commonality forming the basis of an agreement to form and sustain a virtual existence" (1). Having shared similar goals...
Jean Watson, nursing’s living legend, began the development of the Theory of Human Caring/Caring Science over 35 years ago (Clarke, 2016). This theory should serve as a foundation for any personal philosophy of nursing. It reminds us to always treat our patients with love, compassion, and empathy. As caring nurses, we should always anticipate our patients’ needs and try to meet them with kindness and thoughtfulness. When we care, we always treat others with dignity and respect. As healthcare providers, we must always be our patients’ advocate. Additionally, caring means to always fight for our patients’ rights. It also means building a trusting and caring relationships with them. We must be self-aware of any judgmental feelings that could foster their crossing boundaries into intimacy (Lachmann,
Watson’s Theory of Transpersonal Caring is considered a philosophy; therefore, it is very broad and general in scope. Included in the theory are ten caritas the nurse should practice promoting a meaningful nurse-patient relationship (Sitzman & Wright Eichelberger, 2017).
Using a MUD does not require the paraphernalia commonly associated with virtual reality. There is no special hardware to sense the position and orientation of the user’s real-world body, and no special clothes allowing users to see the virtual world through goggles and though through “data gloves”…Instead of using sophisticated tools to see, touch and hear the virtual environment, users of MUD systems are presented with textual descriptions of virtual locations. Technically, a MUD software program consists of a database of “rooms”, “exits” and other objects. The program accepts connections from users on a computer network, and provides each user with access to that database…Within each system users can interact with each other and with the virtual environment which the MUD presents to them (Reid, 1994).
In the following analysis, the importance of nursing theory and its application will be established. I will discuss Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring and apply its key concepts into practice. We will look over the important concepts of her theory and
