Lung Cancer
I chose to do lung cancer in American women because of the fact that many women die from it every year. Women put themselves in danger by risking the chances of a premature death and other types of complications from smoking. In this report I want to learn whom smoking effected more, men or women, what age bracket does smoking most occur in women, and the overall effects that smoking and lung cancer has on women.
Lung cancer is caused by development of airway obstruction, and clinical symptoms leading to chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) as well as to recurrent respiratory tract infections (Klech H, Kummer F., “Smoking causes chronic obstructive lung diseases and increased infections of the respiratory tract”, Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift, Journal Code: XOU, 1994; [144 (22-23): 535-40]). The death rate of lung cancer has increase since 1991-1995 up to about 64%. Lung cancer is hard to detect at an early stage and it is also hard to treat. Many doctors sat that once you are diagnosed with lung the average person has about 5 more years to live.
Smoking is the main cause for lung cancer in women. Over 2,000 females start this habit everyday which is about 728,000 women a year. Out of this amount of ladies 66,000 will die from lung cancer. The worst thing about this lung cancer in women is that no one believes that it is the leading killer in women. That is right it passed breast cancer by a long shot. Lung cancer killed about 66 thousand, as mentioned above, while breast cancer killed only about 45 thousand people (Statistics are from the American Cancer Society's Cancer Facts which contains estimates based on SEER data.)
. What age do you think women start smoking? 18? 20? 16? No, some “children” have started smoking at the age younger then 14 (Skaar, Karyn L.; Tsoh, Janice Y.; McClure, Jennifer B.; Cinciripini, Paul M.; Friedman, Karen; Wetter, David W.; Gritz, Ellen R., “Smoking: A Feminist Issue” (An overview of research. Smoking Cessation, part 1. Vol. 23, Behavioral Medicine), 03-22-1997 [p. 5 (9)]). They mainly start to smoke do to its “pleasant” appeal. During many research studies, the most common reasons were to stay slim, lose weight, or be popular (Heidi D, “Smoking: A Feminist Issue”. Vol. 20, Contemporary Women's Issues Collection, [03-01-1995, p. 9-10H]). Magazines give women and teenage girls these impressions everyday by their ads of big groups of skinny ladies have a good time with a “dag” in their mouth.
Physician practices are increasingly using medical assistants in place of nurses, for a variety of reasons and with significant impact on office efficiency. Medical assistants are trained in both clinical and administrative functions, allowing one staff member to do the work of two. These assistants can help manage patient flow by working the front desk, performing some billing functions, and also providing some clinical care. As you consider adding medical assistants to your practice or optimizing the work of the assistants you already have on staff, you might be wondering: What is the clinical scope of practice of
Capital punishment has been a hot topic debate the past years, especially now that it is slowly dying out throughout the states. In this paper I have brought out four people’s opinion on their views about capital punishment. With these people ideals, I wanted to bring forth a small sample of people’s ideals to leave the you, the reader, with some perspective on others
Rodriguez says that after working in the fields, “a nervous spark of pain would fly up the arm” of the shoulders (345). The owners of the fields should at least try to help some citizens because some citizens who are working are women and those women have to carry heavy boxes of fruit. That might cause a really bad back pain, since they cannot afford a belt to protect themselves from the pain. They also work for many hours to only receive a bad payment. There are many bad conditions on working in the fields because they could fall, dehydrate, get injured and get ill. Yet, the owners of the farms do not do anything to help their farm workers. A way to provide some health care for the farm workers could be by protesting for their rights. Just like how Cesar Chavez did in his time with the farm workers. They made protest at streets to gain some rights an equal payment. Yashar says that in order to stop inequality, the government has to be require “to partner with ethnic communities to identify core needs and shore up local support” (40). Having the help of the government will really be beneficial because they could provide more job opportunities and health care. Not only will they provide health care or job opportunities, but they could also provide with some money to support the families who are in need. The
However, the majority of people would want answers and clarification for numerous questions, is it morally acceptable to have a jury that has no knowledge about the law decide on the culpability or innocence of the defendant? Is it fair to have the jury make this decision based on their personal beliefs or based on little or no evidence? How can the system ensure that juror’s verdict do not reflect prejudiced community standards? Is it ethical to place a defendant on death row if a decision is made solely based on discrimination? How logical is it to continue with this practice if there is proof that it is not an effective method of deterrence? What will be the consequences of completely abolishing the death penalty for good? The purpose of this paper is to analyze the death penalty history, political influence and the ethical issues to establish a possible solution to the current conflict in the criminal justice system and also in the society as a
In addition to being responsible for 87% of lung cancers, smoking is also associated with cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, pancreas, uterine cervix, kidney, and bladder. Smoking accounts for at least 29% of all cancer deaths, is a major cause of heart disease, and is associated with conditions ranging from colds and gastric ulcers to chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and cerebrovascular disease. Women have a better chance in getting lung cancer then men do. This year the disease will kill 68,000 women in the United States, more than one and a half times as many as breast cancer. Even if a woman smoked for awhile and quit, her chances are much greater then a man that smoked 2 times longer then the woman did.
According to “Medical News Today” cancer is a disease that is caused by an over growth of anomalous cells on one or more lungs. Cells often go up the air pipes which can cause difficulty to breath. Due to the over production of cells the tissue cells often begin to over produce; which results in tumors. There are two types of tumors: malignant and benign. Malignant tumors are the more dangerous of the two due to its invasive nature; which makes it cancerous. While benign is not invasive in other words non-cancerous. This is why cancer spreads to multiple areas and can be sometimes very difficult to fight. Cancer cells are abnormal not only because of their evasive nature, but also because of its irregular life cycle. Rather than expire like a regular cell, they continuously grow and duplicate which causes the disease to spread. This makes cell abnormal in shape and other qualities; known as a sickle cell. Due to the large growth and reproduction rate of the cells this makes the spreading of the cancer more rapid. Each cancer has specific symptom, for lung cancer the sympto...
Cancer of the lung was nearly nonexistent in the early 1900’s. By the middle of the 20th century an epidemic became apparent throughout the United States and the rest of the world. It is primarily correlated with the widespread abundance of cigarette smoking in the world. The tobacco industry has multiplied its production immediately prior to World War I. There was a typical 20 to 30 year lagging period between the initiation of cigarette smoking and the actual tumor formation in the lungs. Lung cancer is the cancer that originates in the tissues of the lungs. It occurs when cells in the lung start to grow rapidly in an uncontrolled manner. Lung cancer can start anywhere in the lungs and affect any part of the respiratory system. Most of all lung cancer cases start in the lining of the bronchi (health-cares.net, 2005). It is the leading cause of all cancer deaths in the world. During this time the tobacco companies would continue to say that cigarette smoking was not addictive and did not cause any type of cancer. Even with all evidence in the world today about tobacco causing cancer, Tobacco companies still remain the most profitable business in the world. Lung cancer is very common in both women and men. Women account for about 40 percent of the lung cancer cases in the world. Women who smoke are more than twice as likely to develop lung cancer as those of men who smoke (Tavor, 2005).
The leading cause of death in America is lung cancer. Lung cancer is ranked top 10 fatal cancers in the United States. There are many types of ways to get lung cancer. There is radon gas it occurs outdoors naturally. Then there is second hand smoke that comes from other people smoking. People are even getting lung cancer from cancer causing agents, this happens from carcinogens. You can also get it from air pollution indoors and outdoors. Also there are gene-mutations that form cancer causing cells. Then there is the one everyone blamed lung cancer is smoking.
Smoking causes many other types of cancer, including cancers of the throat, mouth, nasal cavity, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, kidney, bladder, and cervix, and even leukemia has been found linked to smoking. Also, people who smoke are up to six times more likely to suffer a heart attack than nonsmokers, and the risk increases with the number of cigarettes smoked. Smoking also causes most cases of chronic obstructive lung disease. Also, approximately 49,400 deaths have been due to exposure to secondhand smoke. 3,000 nonsmoking adults die of diseases caused by exposure to second-hand smoke every year.
As most of you know, smoking is bad for your health, but what some of you might not know is that you don’t actually have to smoke to be harmed by smoking. Lung cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women, is mainly caused by cigarette smoking. Secondhand smoking causes approximately 2 percent of lung cancer deaths each year. It causes respiratory disease, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), middle ear disease, and asthma attacks in children.
Cancer is defined as where the abnormal cells are divided without any control and they are able to invade into tissues. At times cancer can be cured right away once it is detected through treatments that the doctor recommends, but at times cancer cannot be cured based on what stage the cancer is at. It is very important that every individual gets a physical check up to see if they are diagnosed or detected with any sort of cancer or disease. There are 100 types of cancers out there, but the type of cancer that I will be focusing on is Lung cancer. One of the controversial issues on a lung cancer is the ...
This represents 4.0% of all male 1.8% of female hospitalisations respectively. The epidemiologic evidence and the corresponding biological understanding of respiratory cancer have supported the conclusion that smoking causes lung cancer. It is well documented that cigarette smoke: · is the major cause of lung cancer (primary carcinoma of the lung). · is a cause of heart disease, chronic lung disease, and oesophageal cancer.
In recent years, smoking has started to take over the lives of many teenagers. The number of teenagers smoking has increased dramatically in the last several years. This is a major problem because smoking can lead to sickness and major diseases that can lead to death. Teens tend to participate in this while out of the presence of an adult figure. Although teens should not be smoking in the first place, an adult figure should be around to help insure that their children are doing the right things, even when they are behind sealed doors with their peers. Teenagers as they mature become a model for younger children and when they set the example of smoking can ruin their respectable image to the children that look up to them.
Capital Punishment has been a ground for controversy in the United States for the last 50 years. State by state the death penalty has been revoked, as fewer and fewer are put to death. But with the decline in deaths comes to increase in controversy over the methods of execution. People have put into the question the new lethal injection method and the morality of the situation. The people of this country have come to the realization that capital punishment should be removed from our state 's legislature because it is does not prevent crime, it does not bring those who died back to life, and can easily be replaced with life without parole. The death penalty, stemming from both its brutal past and ineffective present, is a controversial and complex topic that all over the United States is becoming more clear that it is not an acceptable punishment due to the brutal methods, and lack of precise rules.
Approximately one in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit. Half of these deaths will occur in middle age. The most common of the diseases caused by smoking is cancer, of course. Not only is it a cause of lung cancer, but cancer of the larynx, and the esophagus, and it contributes to the development of cancers of the bladder, pancreas, and kidney. Lung cancer comes from the tar in the cigarettes.
