Do any students really get excited about eating school lunch food? Everybody can answer that question easily without even having to think about it. That answer would be no, unless the student attends a fancy private school. Private schools could have better lunches for its students since the administrators make their students pay to go to the school while public schools do not make its students pay to attend. Since public schools do not get as much money brought in, the school must spilt the money received and divide the profit into the different programs throughout the school district. Charlotte Tucker (2012) did a research over why students eat or did not eat school lunch food. In her research, she found that many of the high school students did not participate in the free and reduced-price lunch programs because the food quality was poor. Eighty percent of students who ate the lunches said they did just because they were hungry. Ten percent told her that they ate school food because it was good quality and good variety while the other students who was surveyed said they did not because the food was poor quality and poor variety. Those students who did not eat school lunches said they got food from different places such as home, they left school and came back, or had someone bring them food from a store or fast food store. Students at Butler County High School are a great example of this because the students will either bring in their lunch boxes, have someone bring them something from McDonald’s or Sonic, or sometimes they will sign out of school to go get themselves something to eat. The lunch workers lay out the fruit and vegetables choices, it is usually like a little bowl that includes one or two strawberries. Sometimes they will fix a fruit cup that only includes four grapes and one or two strawberries. The students love to eat those but they are disappointed because they do not get that much to eat when they just want more and more of those.
