The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return (Moulin Rouge, scene 1). When most people think of love they think of a young couple kissing, sex, a child, or even a beloved pet. Love is according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, strong affection, warm attachment, a beloved person (436). The definition is correct, but so vague it does not mention the different types of love that exist. Most people don’t know that there are three. What are they? They are unconditional love, romantic love, and passion or lust. Great examples of love can be found throughout literature or movies, CDs and all of Shakespeare’s plays. The most famous, Romeo and Juliet, demonstrates all the different types of love although not in the manner we’d expect.
The first type of love is unconditional, Dictionary.com does a great job clearing out the air directly defining it as affection with no limits or condition; complete love. However Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines it as a passion, devotion or tenderness that is not limited or conditioned (707, 1284). Both seem to be great definitions. easy to understand I can think of an example from the top of my head taken from the New King James Version Bible:
My command is this: Love each other as I loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends (John 15:12-13).
That is a perfect example of unconditional love it doesn’t need to be your friend it could be your neighbor, brother, sister, etc. And you don’t really need to give your life, but this definition of love requires you to show acts of selflessness. Another example of this is the love from a mother to a child and child to mother. Linda Marin exemplifies in her essay: Mothe...

...t is demonstrating tenderness or devotion. Great examples of love can be found throughout literature, movies, CDs and all of Shakespeare’s plays. I can conclude love is very important to many, since our birth we search to be loved and return that love, from our parent’s siblings and from our spouses.

When you feel love you make sacrifices for the thing that you love because it is special to you. You feel like you only need that one thing in your life and you’ll be content. All of these feelings are expressed throughout the novel, Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. Love is a powerful emotion that can make people do crazy things in life.
Shakespeare 's plays often include love in some major way. In some plays love can even be the themes of his plays, teaching us that love has a strong effect on people. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the main conflict in this play is about how the two lead male characters fell in love with the same girl, how fairs make the conflict worse overall. Shakespeare makes use of love to create great comedical effects in the play to make an interesting. Shakespeare also use Romance in Romeo and Juliet too, but, in this play, he use it to cause the serious source of conflict. He uses the ”star-crossed” lovers concept to make the protagonist fall in love with each other, even though they knew that they could never be together. In the end, every important character kills themselves because they cannot live without their lover. He teaches us that true love s just as dangerous as it is

Throughout the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, various types of love are portrayed. According to some of the students of Shakespeare, Shakespeare himself had accumulated wisdom beyond his years in matters pertaining to love (Bloom 89). Undoubtedly, he draws upon this wealth of experience in allowing the audience to see various types of love personified. Shakespeare argues that there are several different types of love, the interchangeable love, the painful love and the love based on appearances, but only true love is worth having.
Love; an intense feeling of deep affection. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare emphasized love and made it a driving factor in the play. Love is what drove Romeo and Juliet to get married, love is what made Lord Capulet try to force Juliet to marry Paris, and love is the reason Romeo and Juliet die at the end of the play. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare tries to teach the audience about the dangers of love.

When love is in attendance it brings care, faith, affection and intimacy. This is proved true in the spectacular play A Midsummer Night's Dream written by William Shakespeare. This play displays the facts about lust, hatred, jealousy and their roles in something powerfully desirable. It is entitled love. Love is present everywhere, in every form, in every condition and even when one least expects it.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary gives seven definitions of love (excluding religious and sports definitions), ranging from sexual desire to warm affection. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet explores this spectrum through various characters’ attitudes toward the nebulous word. The expression, emotion, and worth varies, yet the label remains constant. Shakespeare’s greatness, perhaps, then stems from the portrayal of how apposed viewpoints of love can come from the same species--the same town or family line, even.
Webster’s Dictionary defines love as a feeling of strong attachment induced by that which delights or commands admiration; preeminent kindness or devotion to another; affection; tenderness; as, the love of brothers and sisters. By the end of Shakespeare’s play Midsummer Night’s Dream, it goes without saying that Webster’s Dictionary definition was able to hit this definition head on. Shakespeare is able to paint the perfect picture for this play mainly because he is one of the great masters of the English Language.
The two types of love I have chose are romantic and unrequited love. Benvolio and Romeo have arrived at the party and Romeo has his eyes on Rosaline. “One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun / Ne’er saw her match since the first world begun” (1.2.94-95) This would be an example of unrequited love. The party is over and Romeo sees Juliet for the first time and speaks with her. “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! / For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (1.5.50-51) is an example of romantic love.
Love is portrayed in numerous mediums: song, history, rhythmic dance, or poetry. These four instruments of love typically identify the notion as subjective, lifeless, and static. Song writer of this age often convey love as a goal in life not as an element of living. While people from different periods in history used love to gain power giving love a bare and emotionless personnel. And lastly dance and poetry perceives love as inaudible and plain, because the vary performers and authors have not experienced love on an intimate or divine level. However William Shakespeare is one of few to frequently incorporate simple, yet complex terminology in sonnets to convey different concepts of love. The comprehensive
In our society, love can be portrayed in thousands of ways. With simple things such as giving someone a hug or something more elaborate such as marriage. These things show are affection and love towards others, but it does not just end there. In Romeo and Juliet, as well as our society, we portray many different styles of love. These styles of love that I thought were portrayed well in Romeo and Juliet were physical love, emotional love, and paternal love.
“Love is not just a verb” Kendrick Lamar. This verse in the song Poetic Justice was his way to say what love is and what is not. Love could be confused for lust. Lust for the appearance attraction. Many films and stories portray this type of love. In high school I was assigned to read the story of Romeo and Juliet. This story is a great example of the types of love. Were Romeo and Juliet driven by true love or lust? To start we would have to figure out which type of love if any in the story. Some may say that they lusted over each other, and didn’t love each other. The sexual desire was not the case, it is merely inexperience and immature. There are many instances of love in the story.
According to Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, love is defined as “strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties; attraction based on sexual desire; affection and tenderness felt by lovers; affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interest; or an assurance of love.” In William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, three different types of love are experienced: friendship love, true love, and self love. Each character experiences a different type of love, and in some cases it is not what they originally expected. The twisted, yet intriguing love story allows the reader to get lost in each characters emotions and development throughout the play. Many instances of love in the play are overwhelmed with a feeling of desire, which leads some characters to fall blind to their true love. Viola, Cesario, Orsino, Olivia, Sebastian and Malvolio, all experience love in a variety of different ways, which adds depth to Shakespeare’s comical play.
