The world needs more people like Nelson Mandela. Because of his time in prison and racial discrimination, among other hardships, Nelson Mandela has faced adversity. While in prison, Mandela grew to understand the equality of man, so decided to dedicate his life to the equality of man. His achievements are quite numerous, including the abolishment of the apartheid and instillation of democracy in South Africa, along with numerous strides forwards in terms of human rights. It was due to adversity that he became so dedicated and if we were able to get more of our citizenry to follow his example, they would stand up for their values. Because a morally courageous population is more willing to be dedicated to their true ideals. And in the end, isn’t that a critical skill in life?

If someone wants to succeed in life and stay recognized by superiors, then he or she ought to appear hardworking. A person begins with setting goals. There are two categories, the first, “be” goals and the second, “do” goals. In other words, ask yourself, "What to be?" or "What to achieve?" Four categories of goals consist of wealth, health, relationships, and self-fulfillment which equal success. Working diligently to finish a task demonstrates how to live a successful life. Given these points, Thomas Edison, Helen Keller and Harriet Tubman, all exceptional achievers, found that prosperity undoubtedly comes along for everyone who perseveres.
Uncle Jim, and Erik Weihenmayer both are not born blind, but are both able to overcome their blindness to live life to the fullest extent. Helen Keller may be the world's most famous supercrip. Very few people can claim to have "overcome" disability so thoroughly and spectacularly. A blind and deaf wild child at the age of 7, she became, by the time she published The Story of My Life at 22, one of Radcliffe's most successful and polished students, fluent in Latin, Greek, German, French and (not least) English--not to mention three versions of Braille (English, American, New York Point) and the manual alphabet in which her renowned teacher Anne Sullivan first communicated with her. But let me dispense with the scare quotes for a moment. Helen Keller is famous--and justly so--precisely because she did, in many respects, overcome the physical impairments of deafness and blindness, as well as the formidable social obstacles facing people with disabilities at the end of the nineteenth century. Her story retains its power to startle and inspire even now, just as Anne Sullivan's story remains among the most startling and inspiring tales in the history of pedagogy.

Personal fulfillment has to do with achieving life’s goals which are important to an individual. The two authors, Helen Keller in The Story of my Life and Frederick Douglass’ in Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave, share a similar goal to learn to read and write during a time in their life of extreme hardship. Both Keller and Douglass demonstrate the necessary attributes required to develop as individuals and progress in life. Their dedication and determination, their positive attitude and gratefulness along with their life experiences are what drove Douglass and Keller to achieve what no one could believe they were capable of due to their backgrounds.
Nelson Mandela in his book, Long Walk to Freedom argues through the first five parts that a black individual must deal, coop, and grow through a society that is hindering their lives' with apartheid and suppression of their rightful land. Rolihlanla Mphakanyiswa or clan name, Madiba was born on July 18, 1918 in a simple village of Mvezo, which was not accustomed to the happenings of South Africa as a whole. His father was an respected man who led a good life, but lost it because of a dispute with the magistrate. While, his mother was a hard-working woman full of daily choirs. His childhood was full of playing games with fellow children and having fun. In school, Mandela was given his English name of Nelson. After his father's death, he moved to love with a regent, who was a well-off individual and owed Nelson's father for a previous favor. The next several years were full of schooling for Nelson. These schools opened Nelson's eyes to many things, which we will discuss later. He and the regent's son, Justice decided to travel to Johannesburg and see what work they could find. They left on their journey without the regent's permission, but eventually escaped his power and settled down in the town. In Johannesburg, Nelson settled down in a law firm as an assistant and went to University of South Africa and Witwatersrand University to further his law education. Witswatersrand University brought many new ideas to Nelson and awakened a spirit inside of him.

During a very unexpected time when Helen was little, Helen and her family had to undergo some serious changes. Helen and her family adjusted to these new and undesirable changes in several different ways. Such as Helen having a private tutor, or Helen learning how to read and write. Helen Keller was an inspiration to the world inspiring many people around her by all of the great achievements despite all of her disabilities. An individual one should admire is someone that inspires people to do great works. A good leader is a person who has gone through challenging situations and has overcome them. Helen Adams Keller proved that the odds were not against her. She learned to read, write, and spell all while she was blind and deaf. As a young child, she was referred to as a "tiny tyrant" that should be put into an asylum (Garret 32). With the help of her teacher, Helen Keller would be transformed from a tyrant to a beautiful woman who many looked up to.
Nelson Mandela is one of the greatest ethical and political leaders in recent history. Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to the fight against the racial oppression of the apartheid regime in South Africa. In doing so, he became the first democratically chosen black president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela’s life is a blue print for the development of a leader who fought against discrimination and aimed to build fairness and justice, and by doing so, acquired the ultimate achievement: equality for South Africa.
Helen Keller was a very inspiring person. She did so much in her life that inspires many. But, Helen Keller lived her life different from others. Helen Keller was blind and deaf. To me, this must've been very hard to accomplish anything in life. But she didn’t let those disabilities stop her from living her life. Keller was born normal just like everybody else. When she was born, she could hear and see. He helped start and lead some of the riots and protests that led to black rights, and he spent a long time in prison to pay for it. He inspired many people. As he said, quoting Marianne Williamson, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world… We are all meant to shine (Williamson).” Overall, he played a very important role in abolishing Apartheid in South Africa.
