Brave New World, a novel by Aldous Huxley, attempts to send a warning to the people of today’s society that life in America could change drastically if people continue living in the same manner. Some of the main focus points of the novel were love and marriage, economic systems, and technological advances. Love, the economy, and technology are major contributors in how people interact in today and tomorrow’s society. In America people act in ways to preserve and create intimate relationships with other humans unlike in the World State. Economic conditions mandate what products people can afford to buy in any society. Scientific and technological advances today determine what technology is available for use tomorrow. From an American standpoint technological advances are often viewed as a good thing. The technological advances in the World State allowed a society much different from ours to be created. Technology in World State has allowed embryos to be created and formed in test tubes. This allows the government of the World State to create each individual with a specific genes and intelligence level needed to do a job they are predestined to do. By creating humans exactly the way the government wants, the government believes it has created a sense of stability in the society. The government in the World State believes that any other technological will upset the stability of the society. All people in the World State are not encouraged to learn any more than what they have to do to fulfill their everyday job. It is taught at a very early age that one should not form intimate relationships with another human. At one point in the novel Lenina had only slept with Henry Foster for several months, when Fanny, Lenina’s friend, found this out she was quick to try to persuade Lenina to go out with another man. People in the World State have no concept of what marriage is. The belief in the World State is that with love comes heartbreak, and people are not as productive with a broken heart.
