What is love? Love has many definitions, which varies from one person to another. One may never know what true love is until it has been experienced. Love is the most amazing, affectionate feeling that can be experienced. According to the Encarta Encyclopedia, love is an emotion that is "explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God."
The actual definition of romantic love has been knowingly altered in the minds of men as time progressed. The original definition of love is, a fiction; a falsehood, a love affair. A comparison of arranged marriages and marriages that are result of romance if one love another, usually the two engage in matrimony. Let me not to the marriage of true minds,(I will not interrupt true love between a couple) It's a wedding scene in a soap opera. The minister is saying, "And if there is anyone present who knows why these two should not be joined together, let him speak now or forever hold his peace." In the back of the chapel, a stranger stands and announces to all, "She can't marry that man. You see: she's adopted. That man is really her brother!" Does that mean love has ended? According to this poem, no, the loved does not stop. And even though finance and physical attraction are sometimes what draw a person to another, it is only their inner personality that will keep a relationship going for a lifetime, "to have and to hold, for richer and for poorer, The fact is that romantic love is a different thing to different people. To me romantic love is a fleeting thing. It is a step towards a better thing.
The other definition of love is the fraternal love of others. A person loves their family and their friends. Do...

...ir inner personality that will keep a relationship going for a lifetime, "to have and to hold, for richer and for poorer, for better or for worse, till death do you part." It does not appear that it was any easier for people in Shakespeare's time to define it than it is now. Perhaps the poet is less confident than he appears to be. Back in biblical times, there were those who believed so much in something they had never seen nor touched, that they were willing to lose their lives. These people in ancient times had so much faith, that we, in today's society, cannot even come close to understanding. They were able to feel something, by their faith, not physically, but spiritually. If this be error and upon me proved, I never writ, nor no man ever loved. If I am wrong about what love means. I should never should have spoken or written, and no man should say he loved.
Love, an intense, deep feeling of connection, romantic, or sexual attachment showing affection for someone or something. As for all pleasant emotions, the feeling that comes with love is exquisitely satisfying. It feels like a cool, , long drink of water when you are parched on a hot day, it it refreshing. Scientists have a pretty good idea of what love does to the brain. Being in love floods the brain with chemicals and hormones that produce feelings of pleasure, obsession and attachment. Neuroscientists divide love into three phases: lust, attraction and attachment. During the lust phase, hormones flood the body with feelings of intense desire. Adrenaline and norepinephrine make the heart race and the palms sweat, while the brain chemical
...ive more information into themselves than into their subjects, and it is presumed that Shakespeare is no exception. At the time he wrote this, Shakespeare clearly felt hopeless to love, which is evident in the themes of the play, the scenes that occur, and the motivations of his characters. His personal interpretation was that hate wins, but that isn’t always true in the real world. People all interpret the world differently, and while Shakespeare’s outlook was negative, not all view it so. Some people would argue that in real life love wins, showing the importance perspective can play, and the fact that the outlook often has more effect than the events themselves, and that interpretation is up to the individual.
The next definition of love comes from Romeo, before he met Juliet. According to his definition, love is painful “Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs” (I.i.197). “Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, / Too rude, too boist’rous, and it pricks like thorn” (I.iv.25-26). He keeps to himself, not venturing out much in daylight, or even allowing it into his room: “Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out” (I.i.142). I believe Romeo is both right and wrong: unrequited love is painful, but Romeo does not truly love - as he is merely infatuated by a woman.
Love: a small, four-lettered word that oozes with possibility. What is the meaning of love? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines love as “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.” However, can love really be defined? In the short story “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love,” by Raymond Carver, the four main characters discuss just that: what is love?
What is love? The age-old question arises once more. In truth, a universal definition has not been agreed upon, but generally one can define love as “an indication of adoration” or an “an ineffable feeling of intense attraction shared in interpersonal and sexual relationships.” Love can be directed towards kin, a lover, oneself, nature, or humanity- but regardless that love in an emotional sense is eternal. Some fall into love, and some claim they fall out. Love should be endless, lasting, and pure, but half of the time that love ends up being a sham. There is solid record of this false love- love that is meant to look pure- in the famous writings The Lottery and To His Coy Mistress.
Emotions are among the most potent forces humanity has ever faced, and, as William Shakespeare emphasizes, love is one of the most influential emotions an individual can experience. Throughout Twelfth Night, Shakespeare focuses on one main characteristic about love that helps to solidify the strength of this emotion on the characters. He wants to reader to understand that love is one of the few forces that can instantaneously incapacitate and cripple human beings, yet it simultaneously wields the capacity to bestow the highest level of satisfaction within an individual.
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
Love is said to be one of the most desired things in life. People long for it, search for it, and crave it. It can come in the form of partners, friends, or just simply family. To some, love is something of a necessity in life, where some would rather turn a cold shoulder to it. Love can be the mixture of passion, need, lust, loyalty, and blood. Love can be extraordinary and breathtaking. Love being held so high can also be dangerous. Love can drive people to numerous mad things with it dangerously so full of craze and passion.
Love is having compassion for others, sharing feelings and your life with another person, as well as, having faith in others and forgiving those we love for the any errs that they may make. Most of all, we must be committed to those we love. Of course, this is only my opinion. No matter how long I try to explain what love is ultimately it is up to you, the reader, to define what love is to you. So let me leave you now with the words of the great Humanist Erich Fromm, "Can anything be learned about the art of love, except by practicing it?"
The Definition of Love Love by definition is an emotion explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God based on the definition found in The Encarta Encyclopedia. As I explored the definitions through the Internet, books, and articles, I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same basic understanding. The definition I found in The Encarta Encyclopedia is probably the most simple and most basic. It refers to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All of which can only be defined by one word and that is love.
The definition of the word “love” cannot be put into a simple sentence. It may be shown in actions; for example, spending hours helping a little sister with their college applications, doing the dishes for a loved one when they 're tired, or simply remembering what their favorite food is. Familial love is odd in the fact that with biological family no matter how annoying that family member ma be, we still feel obligation to interact and take care of said family member. This type of love has no limits in who it can include. On the flip side, when there is a betrayal by a family member that wound is so much deeper. Families are torn apart everyday because of bad decisions. Familial love is a primal instinctual feeling that drives a good portion of our lives. This photograph is an ode to simpler times. When all the children had to worry about was when their next meal was, how muddy they could get the dogs, and whether or not they got to hang out with their older sister and her friends. Familial love is such a complex sentiment that this photo merely encapsulates a small portion of the variance and wonderful emotion that can be the impetus for the actions of humans
Love, that single feeling which generates the funny sensations in people's stomach, giving them the warm pleasures in their body, causing them to feel joy, and to believe every aspect in their life is right. It causes them to receive an exhilarating, appealing feeling that makes them want to rejoice. Love can be a speeding of their heart, but it can also be nerve-racking. It makes their hearts begin to rapidly pump, making a rapid beat— “ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom”. Attempting to describe love is a rigorous task, but it is possible. However, the easiest detail to describe and understand about love is not so much the feeling of it, but the concept of what it is about. Many people may obtain different views and definitions regarding love, but
Love is not a god as the fine philosophers of Greece once suggested. Love is something far more powerful and universal, for not all people believe in gods, yet people cannot refuse the existence of love. Instead, love is a condition of the human body that cannot be denied. True love is obstinate; in the way that music pours into the ears of an audience, love pouring into the heart of a man cannot be stopped, denied, or set off course. Love is a natural instinct. You cannot artificially make love where there is none or where it does not belong. Yet, the condition of being in love grows independent of all rationale. It grows places where an observer may not understand its existence. Attempting to fight love in such a situation leaves even powerful and noble families, such as the Capulets and Montagues, suddenly powerless. When love takes control of two souls, it takes the lovers on a journey. The journey is the growth of love throughout its many progressive stages. In this way, the growth of love between two people is analogous to the growth and development of a painted masterpiece. A work of art and a bond of love both have distinct stages and characteristics. A painting initially begins with a vision in the mind of the artist. This vision is a perfect vision that the artist will strive to replicate on her canvas. Similarly, love often begins on a visual level based on the physical attractions between two people. The vision of the painter is soon transformed into quick, loose sketches. The pencil freely marks the page; the artist has no control over where it goes, he merely paints. Similarly, lovers have no control over their new feeling of love that has taken over their bodies and rendered them helpless. After an artist has loos...
