Ivy was also 16 with dark brown hair and fair skin. Ivy Edwards It was the day before spring break when Ivy heard a scream coming from the girls’ locker room. She ran down the hall, totally forgetting about the math test she had next period. The phone she had stuffed in her pocket right before class, was now in her hand ready to call 911. She opened the door slowly and peaked through the door. Lying on the floor was what appeared to be her best friend Lotus; dead. The next scream that was released through the hallway was hers. She was able to hold her tears and frustration back until this moment. The police sat her down and started asking her things like how close she was to Lotus, and where she was at the time of her murder. After many questions similar to that, Ivy started to tune out the police. Her mind was filled with the image of Lotus, lying helpless on the floor. Her clothes crimson red, and she felt that it was all her fault. She felt numb as she walked home. Ivy had called her parents, but they had just told her they were at work and that she could walk home. Like every other day. Everything was so quiet and peaceful, like the way Lotus should've died. Usually Ivy and Lotus would walk home together, today was not one of those days. Ivy finally realized that she would have to do whatever she could to avenge Lotus’s death. She would interview everyone she knew who had a problem with Lotus, starting with Jenny. As she continued walking, she bumped into Emma, a quiet girl who was good friends with Lotus and Ivy, but never seemed to fit in their …show more content…
That definitely surprised her. “Hey, how are you? I’m so sorry about what happened,” said Jenny. “I’m just sad and very shocked. You shouldn’t be sorry you didn’t murder Lotus.” or did she, thought Ivy. Jenny and Ivy talked for a little longer, but then Liam came out of nowhere. Liam rushed over to Ivy and Jenny said goodbye, mentioning something about her mom, and walked away. Ivy and Liam talked for a while about Lotus, but soon Ivy just couldn’t talk about her anymore so she said that she needed to get home. Ivy just wanted to talk to someone she knew couldn’t have murdered Lotus, because being around all these possible suspects was making her head spin. She turned onto Apple St. and went about 4 houses down until she found Emma’s. Ivy walked up the creaky steps to Emma’s house and slowly rang the doorbell expecting someone to answer. She waited for about 3 minutes until Emma finally decided to let her in. As Ivy walked through Emma’s house no one else seemed to be home. That was a relief because Emma’s parents weren’t the most normal people. However Emma’s brother, a creepy kid who was supposed to be in college years ago, was home. Some people say he was in college, but got kicked out due to behavior issues (mental
Lily is thinking “how much older fourteen had made [her]. In the space of a few hours [she’d] become forty years old.” She makes this connection after she realizes that maybe her mother's death could have not been her fault and that it could have been T. Ray’s and he was punishing her for it. This caused Lily to pack “...5 pairs of shorts, tops, ... shampoo, toothpaste...” $38 and a map (41-42). By doing this, it made her feel like she had aged, feeling like a 40 year old.
Firstly, Brave Orchid is a woman warrior because she receives an education later in life. Kingston writes, “Not many women get to live out the daydream of women – to have a room, even a section of a room, that only gets messed up when she messes it up herself” (Kingston 61). In this passage, Kingston reveals that a woman going off to live at school was not a commonality. Amongst the other women she lives with, she is by far the oldest. Despite the fact that older women are supposed to be wiser, Kingston does not provide any characters at school that share Brave Orchid’s age; she is about twenty years everyone’s senior. Therefore, being a fully grown adult woman attending medical school must have been a rarity. She did not subject herself to

Little did they know what they would find as they approached the top of the stairs. Her little sister, Ali, stood still as she looked down at her feet. There on the cold floor lay her big sister, her role model, and her super hero. Ali was crushed when she saw the pill bottle in her hand and the pale color of her skin. When Amelia asks her mother for permission to study abroad in Paris, her suggestion shot down. Amelia flashes a pouty face similar to one of child not getting candy at a store☺, as Kate attempts to keep a stolid expression, “Yes, Amelia, I can listen, for a minute,” Kate had said, trying not to lose her patience. From the sour look on her daughter’s face, the Thanksgiving trip to Bermuda Kate’d suggest had been akin to offering up a weekend of dental work (McCreight, 10). When Kate gets her first intimation that Amelia may not have jumped from the school roof, she tries to argue the possibility of a murder to her friend Seth, although his doubting frown concluded that he didn’t believe it, “Kate could tell Seth still thought that Amelia’s death had been suicide… Seth shook his head and frowned. His usually snappy demeanor was muted now, almost completely” (McCreight, 176). The most dramatic moment was when Sylvia finally admitted that she had accidentally pushed Amelia off the roof. Sylvia was beside herself with tears, tears that started like a snowball☺ getting bigger with every gasp of air, “There were tears streaming down Sylvia’s face now. She tried to speak but only sucked in air. Then she dropped herself down onto a kitchen chair and put her head in her hands as she sobbed” (McCreight, 360-361). These displays of emotion came with a vivid image while I was
