In Lorcas “Three Plays” one can conclude that there is no respect for women. Women are merely property. Men have total control and the women have none. Ladies have images and expectations to uphold. Marriages during these times existed without love. They were based on convenience, a standard way of living and an economic benefit. Lorca’s plays consist of women and tragedy. Blood Wedding a play depicting the actions of women and the consequences involved. The bride, a young girl, who stood to be married. However, she was not marrying for true love. In fact, she loved a married man. Leonardo, the married man, ought to have stayed away from the bride. This illustrates how a man can control a woman’s feelings and actions. Women are expected to behave with manners and honor. Sadly they are confined to these expectations. The anticipation of such expectations had overwhelmed the bride. It was too much for her to handle, so she left with the married man. Ultimately, her decision cost both men their lives. …show more content…

Deaths are blamed on the women involved. Yerma, a respectable wife, did as her husband requested. Her only wish, to bear a child. However, her husband did not give her the attention she needed nor did he want children. Lorca writes the play to describe all the immoral and dishonorable actions of Yerma. Leaving the house, and speaking to people in public, were not acceptable to Juan. Lorca did not acknowledge that the husband had too, played a part in regards to her behavior. A women needs affection and love, not just material belongings. In these times women were not given the right to have needs and desires. They were given only responsibilities and orders.
