Lopez High School is known to have students that lie, cheat, and copy their fellow student’s work. It is quite arduous to believe that Lopez High School has an “active” honor code. This honor code is anything but a promise; indeed, it is just an agreement we sign and discard the rest of the school year. This “honor code” simply requires to be thoughtfully revised by to assure the code’s efficiency.
Even though, in the beginning of the school year all Lopez High School students are required to sign a code of conduct contract that states, a student caught cheating or plagiarizing another person’s work can lose credit for the course or even be expelled from the school. Instead of having teachers supervising tests and assignments, creating a specially chosen student council to carry out this task can greatly reduce cheating. If these students were told that they were to be punished if they failed to report cheating students, without a doubt, cheating rates would go down. Another way plagiarizing and cheating can be reduced is by actually punishing students for copying other works, instead of witnessing teachers just pretending they didn’t see anything, would be a much more efficient way to stop cheating.
Many people might say this could jeopardize the future of many students, but it would be their fault for cheating and not others. On the plus side, the US needs a lot of street sweepers and workers to complete tasks and jobs many people would not like to do. Many also believe no matter what, students will cheat, and they are not wrong, students will cheat but now they will get caught.
Cheating and plagiarizing in high school can lead to very poor habits and draw backs that can greatly affect one’s future. Nevertheless, Lopez High School should revise and enforce its honor
When I found out I qualified to be a candidate for the NJHS, I knew I had to take this chance. This group is made up of people who depict leadership, character, citizenship, academic success, and service and I would love to join. These characteristics wouldn't just be valuable for a candidate to have, but for everyone to have to exceed in life. If I were to be in the National Junior Honor Society, it would give me an opportunity to ameliorate my future and motivate me to do better.
Across the nation, schools, colleges and universities have established honor codes in their campuses to discourage cheating and promote academic integrity. Whether or not their honor codes are effective is a topic well debated and both sides have merit. At my school, Brookwood High School, the honor code should be revised, for only in an environment where the students are involved, consequences for cheating are high, and a culture of honor and integrity are established, can such as system thrive and succeed.
The fact that plagiarism has become easier and benefits the students academically means that the temptation to cheat outweighs the consequences greatly. The Honor Code system is the moral expectation of trusting students to confront and report their fellow peers when they see that he/she is not obligating the honor code policies. The Schools should eliminate all honor code policies. By eliminating the honor code policies the high schools and colleges will accept that the non-reporting of lying, cheating, and plagiarism is inevitable whether or not the students sign the honor codes. The schools will gain back the trust and respect of the students by changing the overall atmosphere. Not all schools have the abilities to prove these honor codes effective.

I would prefer that students don't cheat. Yes, they really are mostly cheating themselves, so fine. But it also reflects poorly on the community. Rationally or not, what particularly irks me is that it is disrespectful: of me, of their fellow students, of the university, of the institution of learning, and of themselves. Anddid I mentionof me? Cheating is not only unfair to the student cheating, it also affects the student they are cheating off of. Some students put a lot of effort into their work and when people cheat, it may make honest students feel like their work is undervalued. Unfortunately, cheating may be passively or actively encouraged by instructors, the very people who should be acting as positive role models to their students. “Incentives to bend the rules are strong in the No Child Left Behind era, when persistently low scores can shut down a school, trigger a takeover or force teacher transfers” (Asimov & Wallack, 2007). Unless the school administration takes a firm stand against cheating, teachers may feel pressured to ignore less blatant forms of cheating in the classroom.
Cheating and plagiarism have their own history. Many people believe it’s a way to get around certain challenges that we feel unable to defeat. When friends see their peers cheating, they think about their friendship, and therefore, they decide to remain silent. Not allowing teachers to know about cheating can affect your friend, people around you, and even you. Students should alert teachers about cheating, because it’s an act to save your friends, others and yourself.

Plagiarism, or the unaccredited use of another's work or ideas, has become more and more of a problem in recent times than it was in the past. According to statistics found in a survey conducted by the Free Press, 58% of high school students let someone copy their work in 1969, but by 1989 this number had risen to 97%. The expansion of the World Wide Web and the number of people accessing the Web on a regular basis has caused an epidemic of plagiarism in this country, especially among students. This is a serious problem that must be addressed because many students feel that if they are not getting in trouble for cheating, than it is okay.

Some students plagiarize because of the pressure they feel to do perfect on a certain assignment and to go to college. Others do it because they are lazy and want the easy way out. Plagiarism is a serious offense and a growing trend in our society today. Some may associate plagiarism with the idea of taking someone else’s writing and making it their own. In fact plagiarism involves anything that is copied or taken and said to be of your own work. Dictionary.com defines plagiarism as “the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work, as by not crediting the author”. In fact this definition covers all types of cheating and misrepresentation of ones own work. There are many numbers and statistics that can be found on the amount of individuals that have admitted to cheating. Perhaps the most astounding number is one that was reported by Moeck in 2002 aloft of 40% of higher education students commit academic dishonesty. This number I’m sure has grown since this report and will continue to grow with the development of the Internet. There are a number of ideas and strategies that can be employed in order to stop this ever-growing phenomenon. As teachers and adults, we are responsible for stopping this trend and educating students about the consequences and dangers of plagiarism. I believe there are a variety of reasons individuals plagiarize. First, students are insecure with their own ability; they don’t believe they can do the work therefore they take others. Second, students believe they can get away with the act because they know others who have plagiarized, and there were not any consequences. Lastly, students are uneducated on what plagiarism is and do not know the consequences of their actions if they commit an act. These ideas will be the focus of the position taken on plagiarism in today’s academic society.
The failure of our education system is demonstrated by the fact that students are sacrificing their integrity for a handful of points on an assessment. Despite the efforts of honor codes, scholars have become numb to their purpose; they break such a promise of honesty to themselves, their teachers, and their peers without second thought. America’s children have lost the value of trust, compromising invaluable relationships with excuses regarding societal pressure and their excessive workloads. We cannot let such actions continue; if educators continue to tolerate cheating, our world may transition into one socially, economically, and politically operated by dishonest individuals. The above discussion shows that there are many effects of cheating in exam. Therefore, schools should come up with strategies on how to reduce cheating in schools. The teachers can inform the students about the effects of cheating in exam. They should also come up with harass punishment if a student is caught cheating. This will reduce the cases of cheating, and students will be fully equipped for the job market. Therefore, students should know cheating in exams is bad.
