A week or two ago we received an assignment to research the career we wanted to go in to in the future. Knowing full well what I wanted to do, it wasn’t hard to head straight to the internet to learn more about videogame design. As a kid I grew up playing videogames so I already had some significant exposure to the genre. As a kid I would also draw all the time and would later turn that hobby into a career plan. With these in combination, becoming the person who designs the games is like a dream to me.
I already knew some things about designing videogames like the types of things I would be doing and the time it takes to develop big games. Some things I wanted to know were the salary, the process of making a game, the work environment, the level of education it required, and the levels of stress I would be under in this career.
Experience:
To answer these questions we were asked to look at a few different sources, one of which being a personal experience or interview. I chose to look at several different videogames and analyze them by looking at the character development, the graphic quality, the scenery, and when it was made. All of the information gathered would have been wasted if I had not cross referenced them with the amount of time in which it took the development team to make these games. As expected, I noticed that as the amount of time spent developing the game increased, the quality of the game showed significant improvement.
BLS:
As another source to look at, we were advised to visit the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website. When I visited the site I typed videogame designer into the search bar and waited for the results. The articles popped up and were written by sources that showed unbiased, factual informat...

...o find the stress levels of someone with this job and the work environment as well. For the most part my opinions on being a game designer have consistently stayed the same throughout my research. At the start I was very intrigued by the subject and after the work I feel the same way and I even wish to learn more about it. Now that I know all this information about videogame design I want to start on a path towards this career. My first step will be to take more art classes in high school and later going to Schoolcraft where I will get a two year degree in videogame design. After that I will transfer to Bowling Green University as stated above where I will finish out my education. Thankfully, BGU has an after graduation assistance program to help me find work in my field after I finish. Hopefully, with this plan I can start a successful life as a videogame designer.
Video games have completely changed childhoods of many children across the globe. A video game involves visual feedback from a TV or computer monitor. Ever since the 1970s, video games have continuously improved by improving the graphics and sound. During the 1970s, there were many arcade games that were not advanced compared to today’s games. By 2016, video games are produced in three-dimensional imaging and are incredibly realistic. For example, Madden 2016 is a football game based on all the athletes in the National Football League. The graphics from Madden 2000 to Madden 2016, have improved drastically due to technology. Therefore, video game creators make billons of dollars by selling them to individuals across the world. However, there

Video games have been around since 1958, and ever since then video games have developed more. With video games becoming a bigger industry, there have been more people purchasing and buying more and more video games. For examples, up to 2001, “roughly 79 percent of America's youth played video games, many of them for at least eight hours a week” (Layton). Furthermore, in 2008, “97% of 12-17 year olds in the US played video games” (“Video Games”). With a growing industry, there has been more competition between video game companies. “The objective of video games are to entertain people by surprising them with new experience” (Shigeru Miyamoto).Video games have been a leisure activity for many people around the world but for some people it has become a way of life. Video games help us escape everyday life and bring us to a land of imagination. That is why many people play video games because it is a great way to relieve stress. The first piece of technology that was introduced to me was the amazing, ground-breaking GameBoy created by Nintendo. My parents believed that my obsession with video games in my juvenile years would be the cause of my downfall when I would become an adult with no job, no money, and still lived with my parents. I admit that I did have an addiction in the beginning, but over the years it moderated as I became more attracted to what was actually done to develop the devices and programs that once ensnared me. Enrolling into a vocational high school, I selected Programming & Web Development as my choice of trade in order for me to learn more about this extraordinary field of science. Soon I began compiling my own applications, but with a method unorthodox compared to my classmates; I believed that the vivid aesthetics and simple navigation displayed on applications were just as crucial as the tediously compiled, intricate code virtually hidden underneath. With every annual keynote that was broadcasted from numerous Silicon Valley companies, their latest innovations constantly entertained my curiosity. Advancing as an upperclassmen, I entered into challenging courses and incessantly researched innumerable universities as I began to devise a plan of recruitment for the companies of the Bay Area. Enrolling into a university that is passionate about the
Art can be divide in to two different categories, “literacy arts,” art forms that attempt to tell a story, and “fine arts,” traditional works, sculptures, and paintings, as well music and dance. Video games, along with film, are an example of a literacy art form. Video games are increasingly becoming literacy art by telling stories that are equal if not better than those found in most movies. Not just mediocre stories to have them in the games, but compelling stories that drive the player to push forward. Bioshock, a 2007 release, is an example of this increasing importance of stories in video games. Influenced by philosophy and the works of Ayn Rand, the creator where able to create a cautionary tale of man’s individualism and genetic tweaking (VerBruggen).
Women are looked down on in the video game industry, like many other ‘male dominated’ factions of society, mainly do to the poor numbers of women in high jobs of the gaming community. Female game developers make up only 11 percent of game designers and 3 percent of programmers, dramatically low percentages in the light of their male counterparts. The percentage of women as game developers are low even when compared with the br...
Video games have quickly risen to a sprawling media since their first conception nearly fifty years ago. As they grew, video games have become an incredible new medium for art and design. However, video game developers, especially large ones, have collected several core problems that misconceive the potential of games. Further, this problem represses this potential by suffocating this potential artistry merit with meaningless traditions and poor business practices. These observations have led to the assertion that video games as a media are ineffective as an art form compared to other art mediums due to several problems stemming from the structure and values of the video game industry.
Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.
Plus, they play to try to release their stress, frustration, and pressure after having a hard time doing their homework or in class. Video game developers goal is to make fans happy when they play their games. Video games are meant to have a feeling of adventure, enjoyment, and excitement. In the present time, video games make up a large part of many country’s cultures. Since the first video games produced on room-sized computers back in 19471, just what kind of things caused video games to evolve into the enormous industry of the 21st century? The advancement in video games can be largely attributed to improvements in technology, precedents set by certain integral video game companies, but was also set back by a crash in the market in 1983.
During these past few decades, technology has advanced drastically, especially in the aspects of gaming. At one point in history video games could only be playable at home, but now with all these improvements in technology, games can be easily played on our mobile devices. Likewise, these advancements in gaming have created endless possibilities for people of all ages to participate in this activity. Consequently, video games have influenced society and have impacted us in various ways.
To conclude, video games occupy a noticeable part of today’s society. While it offers many social, academic and also professional benefits, the controversial drawbacks are certain.
