How long does it take to destroy a whole city and kill 63 and injure about 3,700? On October 17, 1989, a massive earthquake lasting 15 seconds, consumed San Francisco and the bay area. (“1989 San”) Right before the 3rd game of the 1989 World Series the game was interrupted by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake, causing $6 billion in damage. There were fewer casualties due to the World Series because fewer people were on the roads because they were getting ready to watch the game.
