Law enforcement agencies not only include small town police but they also include larger agencies such as the FBI, secret services and so forth. The small-town police who are considered local or county-level law enforcement includes municipal, sheriffs, county, etc. They usually deal with situations that are local. Local situations could include but not be limited to patrolling highways and reporting accidents that happen on major highways. On the other hand, federal agencies perform more serious duties such as protecting America from terrorist attacks. Federal agencies include U.S. Marshals Service which is a federal agency whose duties include tracking down a fugitive. Both local and federal law enforcement agencies overlap in which they both carry out the laws differently. Someone could be dismissed from a crime but charged by the other agency for the same crime but on a different level. There should be elimination in the overlapping between these two agencies. Both the local and federal agencies should find a common ground and work together to solve crimes. Local agencies are considered, the city, the state, the county (municipal) and the sheriff’s department. State agencies basic jobs are patrolling the highways and reporting to accidents that happens on major highways. Some may even issue driver’s license. Some state agencies assist local agencies in specific investigations, if need be. For example, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation(GBI) investigates accusation of political corruption and assists local law enforcement agencies with cross jurisdictional issues (Fuller, 2014). State agencies also keep crime laboratories that oversees evidence across the state. Each state has their lower level services that deals with alcohol and fishing
