Living under government oppression since I was a child, the seed of advocating for the vulnerable and those who have been unfairly treated has been deeply planted in my heart. My education and work experiences have further strengthened my faith that pursuing Ph.D. degree in Social Work is the most effective way to achieve my career goals. My life story and education and work histories outlined below will provide evidence of my qualifications and strong motivation. The first eight years of my life, I lived only with my mother. It was not because my parents were divorced or my father left the family, but because I am a second born child. As a victim of the one-child policy, I am well aware that the one-child policy is not only a violation of human rights, but also has long term negative consequences. China has become an aging society and is facing many challenges of providing care for the aging population. My life experience made me highly motivated to improve my abilities in advocating for social change and social justice as a social work professional in China, armed with a Ph.D. in Social Work from University of Chicago. . I am eager to continue to develop my analytical and research skills by obtaining substantive, methodological training in order to prepare myself fully for a lifelong struggle to ensure the aging population receive proper care. I am primarily interested in evaluating the sustainability and the effectiveness of social welfare, housing, and health policies in order to promote better long term care options for older adults.
