After their first successful album DNA, Little Mix is back with their new album Salute. Last time around every song was about love and building up self esteem. The new album is mainly about relationships. These 4 British girls Jesy (22), Leigh-Anne (22), Jade (21) and Perrie (20) have taken the world by storm with the sixteen song track list; it’s hard to pick a favourite. This album includes the massive single ‘Move’.
Track one Salute is an upbeat song that is about gaining respects for women in the work force especially in regards to the defence force. The lyrics “Sisters we are everywhere Warriors, your country needs you. If you're ready ladies, better keep steady ready, aim, shoot”. This is saying that it should not matter what someone’s gender is, they can still protect their country. No one needs to change for a job. Perrie has said on Instagram that this is her favourite song to dance to.
Track two is the massive hit Move. This song is mainly about going to a party and a girls eyes landing on a guy she now fancies. The lyrics “Hey baby, Tell me your name, I got a fever for you I just can't explain”. This is saying that once laying eyes on the guy, she wants to go over and get to know him, but she doesn’t want to chase him. Personally this is the easiest song to get up and dance to.
Track three is the beautiful Little Me. This song is about encouraging girls to be strong and to help them build back up their self esteem. The lyrics “You gotta speak up, you gotta shout out, And know that right here, right now, You can be beautiful, wonderful, Anything you wanna be”. They Just Don’t Know You is track fourteen. This song is about a family jumping to conclusions with a new relationship. The lyrics “daddy doesn’t think that you’ll be good enough for me”. This means that like every protective father, he wants what is best for his little girl. This includes the world of dating and judging a book by its cover.
Track fifteen is Stand Down. This song is about moving on from someone and telling them to stay out of your life. The lyrics “my smiles lights up the world, I’m flying higher”. This means that the girl has moved on for the better and she has changed her attitude on life.
Salute is one of the best album’s that has been released. With the many themes of each song it is hard not to pick a favourite or at least fall in love with one song.

These three girls described in this song relate to sociological characteristics of poverty, education, healthcare, marriage, and family. The biggest sociological aspect seen throughout all three girl’s stories, is poverty. Poverty is a big part of the song and shows some cases in which it is like to live in poverty. At the end of the song Ludacris is talking about how he has no idea what these girls have been through. He tells the girls to close their eyes and pretend that they are running away from their lives, when they open their eyes their problems will be gone and everything will be ok.
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening

The song starts with a quiet and minimalist synthesized keyboard instrumentation which is immediately met with the anguished vocals of Cyrus. Even in the first 30 seconds where only 26 words were sung, the topic of the song is quite evident: a failing relationship. A love no one could deny” which could be interpreted as two lovers fought to be together and succeeded in doing so but it was ultimately useless as denoted by “we chained our hearts in vain”. As the song progresses the minimalist keyboard continues creating an open environment in which Cyrus’ emotive vocals can shine. When the refrain is introduced Cyrus’ vocals and the keyboard instrumentation briefly disappear and when they reemerge they are joined with booming percussion that hits sharply, then slowly dissipates. These songs are filled with inspiring lyrics such as, “Don’t wanna be the reason for your love no more” and “Baby, baby get nasty, nasty and we can get freaky deaky.” These lyrics teach the 8 year old fans just what girls are good for, and make them feel loved and respected; at the same time they teaching them some interesting vocabulary that they can use in everyday life. I like the consistency of the song titles, because consistency is very important. A large portion of their titles include the word ‘you’, or ‘me’, which definitely showcases their creativity. There are many times when feminism is incorporated into song lyrics to give a sense of women’s empowerment in an audience. Alicia Keys is an American Hip hop and R&B songwriter and singer who wrote the song “Girl on Fire” that was released in her fifth studio album in 2012 (Girl on Fire (song), 2014), and was inspired by her son, Egypt. This song is about a lonely girl who is starting to be comfortable in her own skin. It says how everyone is staring at her as she goes by because everyone can see the flame burning and glistening in her eyes. In my paper, I will talk about how the lyrics in this song are very bold that can be applicable to all girls. I will analyze “Girl on Fire” using a method that was developed by Kenneth Burke called cluster analysis (Foss, 2009). Through this method, I can identify key terms in this song and put them into clusters to discover the meaning behind the key words explained: girl, hottest, and on fire.
