The article titled “Little Girls or Little Women? The Disney Princesses Effect” was written by Stephanie Hanes and was published September 24, 2011 by the Christian Science Monitor. Hanes wrote this article in response to the Disney Princesses becoming popular. The author argues that the princesses were having a negative effect on little girls. I agree with Hanes that the Disney princesses were having a negative effect on little girls. After careful examination of Stephanie Hanes uses of rhetorical appeals, rhetorical fallacies, a comparison and contrast of Hanes’s article with Debrah Swaney’s and The Dove Project’s article, and a discussion of proposals to address the issues. It will be proven that Hanes’s article is deserving of the top prize for persuasiveness to be awarded by Pop Matters and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Hanes utilizes several rhetorical appeals. The following dominant claim in all three articles was logos which are characterized speak to rationale; and is a method for inducing a group of people by thinking. Hanes gives us a lot of logos offers with utilizing a great deal of research and cases in her article. Swaneys' article and additionally the Dove article give us a rundown of cases and research as well. The second dominant appeal advance is pathos which is characterized as a nature of an involvement in life or a show-stopper that mixes up feelings of pity, sensitivity and distress.
