Little Brother: The Listening
Describing this CD in three words would be personal, stylish, and free. Not “free” like it comes with your purchase of fifty dollars or more at Best Buy but “free” as in no boundaries or limitations. When I first put this album in my CD player and pressed play I was completely entranced by the sounds that followed. That was back in 2003 and still to this day you might catch me blasting songs in the morning or humming their tunes to sleep at night. If I try to put my finger on why this ONE album can last so long with a person as picky with music as me it would come down to how well the two rappers, Phonte and Big Pooh, convey every aspect of their lives into their lyrics. Not only can they describe fully the pressures of having a growing family and a low paying job, but also let loose stories about groupie love, haters getting put in their place, and partying until daybreak; all this with clever wordplay that puts them in a class of their own! I wouldn’t call them underground hip-hop because they don’t make a conscious effort to be different. They’re not considered mainstream because their focus isn’t just on making music to be rich. They’re just an alternative, and it is refreshing to hear someone strive to be the best at what they do artistically, not by how well they can market themselves. At a business level, we all know the importance the actual beat plays with finicky listeners. Even the songs with sub-par lyrics and rhyme schemes can still become a hit when a famous producer is behind the scenes. Luckily, production is another criteria Little Brother controls so well. Their producer, and third member of the group, is named 9th Wonder for more than just the cool moniker: he represents his own unique sound not yet overused and exploited by the masses. With a pension for taking old school samples and churning out beats unbelievably hypnotic and hard-hitting, 9th lays the backdrop perfectly for each and every bit of musical art on Little Brothers’ first major release. Taking a different direction than sampling producers like Kanye West and Just Blaze, he has been steadily gaining fame ever since he produced the song “Threats” on Jay-Z’s final record, “The Black Album”. Because
Gummow and Bell JJ concluded that clause 1 of the Deed signed Rural’s debts and its interests under the loan agreements to Equuscorp. Their Honours observed that the phrase “other remedies for these matters” located in clause 2 assigned a claim in restitution for money had and received . Heydon J agreed with this decision on similar grounds .
This is a true story about how 2 men, Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers, completely different from each other from and inceperable bond. The 2 men are seperated by about everything that you can think of: they come from 2 different parys of the country, one is white, one is black, 1 liked to talk, the other was shy. Pretty much the only thing they had in common was that they both were competing for the same job.
In Othello, Shakespeare forms the villainous character, Iago through his complex language. Iago shows his evil nature towards Roderigo through his use of demeaning animal imagery. Iago also uses an extended metaphor to try and trick the ignorant Roderigo and (unknowingly to Roderigo), insults him. Lastly, Iago uses repetition to beguile Roderigo to keep paying him. Iago’s slyness is clearly seen through his deceiving language towards the end of Act I.
One of the most prominent traits in Iago is his ability to manipulate. His entire plan of bringing about the downfall of Othello involves him manipulating characters into believing what he wants them to believe. In fact, he is so good at manipulating people that no one even suspects him of doing anything wrong because they believe he is such an honorable man. “Iago deceives Othello by also manipulating other people to achieve his ends” (Boyce). This shows that Iago is able to deceive mostly everyone in the play. However, Iago himself says in Act I scene i line 62 of Othello “I am not what I am.” He means that he is not the loyal, honest friend that he appears to be to everyone else. His manipulations include using Roderigo for his money if he helps him against Othello while making it seem like he will help Roderigo win Othello’s wife, Desdemona (Shakespeare). He also manipulates Othello by making it seem as if Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair, which is what ultimately brings about the hero’s downfa...
Many times when reading a novel, the reader connects with one of the characters and begins to sympathize with them. This could be because the reader understands what the character is going through or because we get to see things from the character’s perspective and their emotions and that in return allows a bond to form for the reader. The character that is the most intriguing for me and the one I found comparing to every book that I read during school was Stacey from the book “Ravensong” Lee Maracle. The character Stacey goes through a lot of internal battle with herself and it’s on her path to discovery that she begins to understand herself and what she’s capable of. Throughout the novel, Stacey has a few issues she tries to work through. This is emphasized through her village and in her school that is located across the bridge in white town. Stacey begins dealing with the loss of Nora, and elder in her town. And this in return begins the chain of events that Stacey begins on the path of self-discovery not only on herself but everyone around her. She begins to see things differently and clearly. Stacey is a very complex and confused character, and she begins to work through these complexities through her thoughts, statements and actions.
What most listeners do not understand is that a lot of hip-hop music is not understandable from the get-go. It takes intense analyzation of lyrics and an open mind to be able to understand what it is really about. Some people can’t understand what is being said just by listening with their ears, and they don’t bother to go study the lyrics. They then leave with the perception that hip-hop is chalk full of, well, nothing. One of the greatest rap lyricists of all time, Shawn Carter, also known as Jay-Z, says, “People don’t bother trying to get it. The problem is that so many people don’t even know how to listen to the music.” Mister Shawn Carter has also said that rap is poetry. He mentioned not to forget that the lyrics in the song were transmitted from feelings, thoughts and emotions to lyrics written on a piece of paper. He went on to say that if you hung that piece of paper up on a wall and someone went up and read it as it was, they’d say, “Wow, this is genius. This is poetry.” McHorter’s opinion on rap can and will be agreed upon by many, many people; however, this conclusion can only be reached without h...
It features many guest appearances but the main artists on the album are Lil Wayne, Lloyd, Drake, Tyga, Nicki Minaj, Gudda Gudda, and Jae Millz. Majority of my favorite rappers are featured on this album. It is one of the biggest rap collaboration CDs of all time! The lead single “BedRock” by Young Money also happens to be one of my favorite songs. I absolutely love the word play and creativity all the artists use in this song. Metaphor after metaphor is used to paint a picture in your mind in every song. I listened to this CD over and over in the car when I was 16. The whole album is filled with great energy and a lot of
...me a director of the third company within five years after the liquidation of the two companies. The third company was funded by a creditor, Mr. Silverleaf. When the third company was wound up, Mr. Silverleaf then had knowledge of the previous two companies’ failures and claimed a debt of close to ₤135,000 . Mr. Silverleaf was successful in bringing proceedings under sections 216 and 217 of Insolvency Act 1986 even there’s no evidence of any asset transfer between the companies.
The unfair prejudice petition has always been regarded as the easier and more flexible option for minority shareholders’ protection compared to the statutory derivative action. The restrictive leave requirements under the statutory derivative claim where the concept of prima facie, good faith and ratification have been interpreted within the confines of the origins in the case of Foss v Harbottle do not add any appeal the statutory derivative claim. Further, the approach in relation to granting indemnity costs orders which is rather limited does not in any way encourage any potential claimant to pursue a derivative action. Recent cases which allows corporate relief to be obtained via unfair prejudice petition and even the possibility if recovering costs under and unfair prejudice petition has further relegated the significance of the derivative action.
, a feat that is considered career suicide for any mainstream musician. Sure they lack the fame, wealth, and prestige of any well known rapper or rock star displayed in the media with the acclaim of demigods, but their lack of creative restraint leads to an even greater connection between the sweet music they create and the limited individuals lucky enough to have heard of them.
A registered company, as an artificial person is separate from its members and exists only by virtue of the Companies Act under which it is incorporated. When a business is incorporated, it becomes a separate legal entity and, therefore, can be sued and sue without affecting the shareholders personal assets. This was established in “Salomon v A Salomon Co.Ltd”. Separate legal personality is known as the veil of Incorporation. This protects the shareholder and places the responsibility of the company onto the directors. These duties are outlined in the Companies act 2014.
Looking into the merits of this principle, it seeks to protect the company and its members by the independent corporate existence and the establishment of limited liability, which is a major advantage of incorporation as the members are not necessary liable for its debts. Another advantage is having separate property, the company is able to hold and enjoy the property under its own name and no one is able to claim the ownership of the company’s assets. Despite all the advantages, there are scholars criticizing with such principle and the first academic who against it was Kahn-Freund. He asserted that he Salomon principle was ‘catastrophic’ as it is an ideal vehicle for fraud and he argued that the incorporation is relatively more
Unlike most rap artist of the 90's Notorious B.I.G. is more then a thug rapping about killing cops and doing drugs. Sure he does have songs on this album that talks about drugs but isn't that what people expect when picking up his CD in a store? The REAL reason people actually buy the CD is because of the positive message he sends to everyone who thinks they have no hope in escaping the street life. He deliverers a clear message to everyone living in the slums everywhere to look up and fight and win what is rightfully theirs. This is why everyone still remembers Biggie. He gave everyone hope and when the death of his anniversary comes up, many people will blast his music and know everyone no matter their social or economic status has a chance to live a life full of happiness.

I had a wrench thrown in my whole world when my boyfriend and I broke up this semester; We live together, and it was very emotionally devastating for me. I stuck to my planner and have not missed any assignments (except the one I mentioned previously). With break ups, there comes stress. I faltered once or twice with doing homework early, but everything got turned in on time. In addition to sticking to the planner, I was lucky enough to find a job that allows me to do homework while working. I sit at my desk, answer phones when it rings, and process transactions at my desk. My laptop sits in front of me at my desk, and I have been very productive. I have completed a lot of assignments early and gotten a head start on almost all of
