In order to understand the concept of quasars and active galaxies, one must first have a feel for the astronomical numbers involved. Secondly, a basic knowledge of the tools of the trade, and finally, a working knowledge of astronomical jargon. Once there is a working knowledge of the aforementioned factors, then there is the chance that one could be able to assimilate the complex theoretical properties that are used to discuss quasars and active galaxies. In order to understand the large numbers used to express the vast distances discussed in astronomy, one needs to relate these numbers to everyday life. During everyday conversation, people may say things like “the national debt is trillions of dollars,” “the lottery is up to 31 million dollars,” or “John Doe is a billionaire.” An astronomer might say that “one astronomical unit equals 93,000,000 miles or that a light-year is 5,870,000,000,000,000 miles.” The human comprehension level of all of these terms is probably nowhere near the actual truth behind how large these numbers really are.
He is remembered as the father of astronomy and remains one of the most competent scientists in the field (Andrade, 1964). This essay will explore Galileo’s observation of the contradiction in Aristotle’s reasoning through mathematics, his struggle between church and science, as well as his contribution to astronomy with the invention of the telescope. Galileo came up with a very different approach in viewing the motion of falling objects. Unlike Aristotle, who viewed motion in terms of nature, Galileo focused strictly on the mathematical aspects (Finocchiaro, 1975). Astronomy is a field where one looks into the great expanse of space and tries to find something that will bring the world a little closer to fully understanding the universe. The road to becoming an astronomer is not easy, as one must get an excellent education, hope that there are actual job openings, and then obtain a steady position. In order to be an astronomer, it is required to have a doctorate’s degree in either astronomy or physics (“Physicists and Astronomers”). After finishing their studies, an astronomer can really only hope to be lucky and secure a position working for the government, a university, or a college (“Astronomer Job Description”). If they somehow find a job, an astronomer’s job varies heavily depending on where they are employed (“Careers in Astronomy”).
Telescopes were one of the most important inventions in the science of astronomy. They opened up the sky, allowing people to see things previously invisible. With telescopes, scientists could look beyond the visible sky and learn about what exists past the night sky. From the earliest telescopes of Galileo’s age to the incredible telescopes used today, they have allowed people to see just how large the universe is and what makes up that universe. How the Telescope Opened the Universe When Galileo created his telescope and aimed it towards Jupiter, not only did he have the first view of something beyond the Earth, but his discovery proved that there was more to the night sky than the small pricks of light from distant stars.

Present Day When I am at the Robinson Observatory with the Astronomy Society at UCF, I cannot stop looking through the telescopes. Each star I look at has its own story.
If this is really so then the fact of widespread discussions since the 70s among physicists and cosmologists on the subject of "the beginnings of the Universe" seem to be an obvious sign that also this unusually intriguing problem has matured to its scientific solution. The purpose of my paper is to attempt to answer the question whether the problem of the origin of the world currently evades philosophers (and theologians) and passes completely to the realm of science (i.e. physics, astronomy and cosmology), or whether science by itself is not able to solve this problem. In the latter case one would have to acknowledge that metaphysics, the philosophy of nature and epistemology, provides important premisses, assumptions and methods indispensable for this solution. Unlike most of the history that is read in books, Galileo's story is of a real man with real values and faced with very controversial decisions. Some of these controversies involve the clash of his passion of philosophy with that of the most widely accepted Aristotelian teachings. An example of this is when Galileo looked into his telescope and saw the moon, with its large mountains and deep valleys (31). On the edge of theoretical physics is the study of String Theory, a theory first proposed in the middle of the twentieth century. String Theory was very prominent among the physics community in the late twentieth century, and many physicists were working on experiments and proofs to solidify the theory. However, half a century later and String Theory remains unproven and unverified. Just like Aristotle’s theories, if String Theory results in inaccurate predictions of the universe, it will also need to be eliminated from science in order for science to more fully progress. In order for humanity to further its understanding of nature, it must first establish a theory, realize its errors, and retheorize until a point is reached where no discontinuities exist between the theory and the universe.
Also, some technical advances because of astronomy include many telescopes, tracking programs used by FedEx, and IRAF which is used to analyze computer systems. Even though astronomy is an incredibly interesting field, there are minimum job opportunities. Some of the jobs are included in the following fields: education, national observatories and laboratories, or in private industries. Astronomy has been the key to unlocking many new inventions and by connecting things from the past, to the present, and going into the future.
Science is and has become a necessity to know just to keep up with the tremendous advancements of today and tomorrow. Basic things, such as how the universe was suspected to be started or who Ptolemy and Galileo were and what they did are just things that need to be known to fully understand what is happening in the world around you. These things are what you need to know, if you’re a scientists, to a grocery shop bagger. Ptolemy was a Greek man who became the man to set the future for astronomy. He was the third of the Alexandrian men, this group of scientists and mathematicians taught Alexander and his generals themselves.
