Literature Review: The Ten Basic Principles Of Good Parenting

In this literature review, I will provide an overview of the way parenting has been described in the scholarly literature, the different types of parenting styles and effects, practices, skills, values, and the various factors that have to be put into consideration in order to bring up a successful child. Followed by the methodology used in this study, and then I will produce the narratives that were conferred by parents from different background in my community. Parenting definition Steinberg (2004) described parenting as a way of nurturing emotionally healthy kids and likened parenting to a boat built to be launched at a later date; the architectural process is distinctive and more delightful seeing that the boat can weather the storm.…show more content…
Uninvolved parenting: parents are neglectful and do not attend to their children’s necessary needs. They may be preoccupied with other challenges of life or lack parenting skills about child development. Children of such parents develop low self-esteem and perform woefully in their academics. Finally, Cline & Fay (2006) indicates in their book Parenting with Love and Logic that effective parenting focuses on love; love that is not indulgent, that doesn’t accept rudeness, although strong enough to permit children to make mistakes, which entails logical consequences. Whereas, Steinberg (2004) in his book titled “The Ten Basic Principles of Good Parenting” maintains that parents can’t be extremely affectionate and request parents take up their responsibility and ensure that the children’s opinions or choices are motivated, principally, by the people who nurture them and also establish a warmly healthy environment for their…show more content…
