As I started to contemplate what I would write in this paper, I had a difficult time remembering things that used to make me laugh. So I called some of my family members and got some interesting feedback! My grandma told me that I used to have a little glowworm and every time it lit up I thought it was hilarious. My mom told me that I used to love getting my picture taken and I though it was really funny to see myself when the pictures were done. I cannot remember the first joke I heard. My favorite joke now is: “What do you call a fake noodle?” “An impasta!” I remember telling this joke my freshman year of high school and I still laugh every time I tell it. Looking at the origin of my sense of humor, I can definitely point out certain people who have made my sense of humor what it is today. My parents are definitely two of the funniest people I know. From my Mom I get my silly side. My Mom is always being goofy and she always talks in random voices, which I find myself doing often. My Dad is really sarcastic and I definitely take after him in that aspect. I also find myself doing random little quirks I see my friends do. One thing that significantly changed my sense of humor is curse words. I have always been able to make people laugh and make myself laugh. However, it was not really until my sophomore year of high school where I was really introduced to curse words. Now that I am in college and away from adults most of the time I catch myself cussing drastically more than I used to. In a different light though, I think that curse words make everything way funnier. I do not know what it is about them but they never cease to make me chuckle! I do not really think I intentionally try to develop my sense of humor. However, my sense...

...hey feel real to me.” I think this quote form Louis CK completely describes my experience with his stand-up. I do not really think I would like Louis CK as a person off the stage. Most of the things he says repulse me or I disagree with (family and kids). So I am not necessarily intrigued by him as a person, but rather I am intrigued in the way his stories can make me laugh. I like how when I watch his stand up I never really know what he is going to day next. I know it will be hysterical, but he tells a wide range of stories so it keeps his performances ambiguous to the audience. I consider Louis’s work worthwhile because it gives me a good laugh. After a rough day at school, it’s nice to listen to someone curse about random and real situations. I really enjoyed listening and watching Louis CK. I think he is hilarious and I will definitely watch him in the future.
“Everyone has a sense of humor. If you don't laugh at jokes, you probably laugh at opinions.” Once said an American poet, essayist, and existentialist philosopher Criss Jami, Killosophy. I also believe that humor and laugh play a big role in our lives. However, there are two types of people’s personality; people who understand humor and more open minded, and those who just cannot get it, and that, in my opinion, just makes their live harder. The article, “That’s Not Funny” by Caitlin Flanagan, is talking about college students that are not allowed to joke because of comedians restrictiveness in what they are talking
Bernie Mac’s second Def Comedy Jam special, “I Ain’t Scared of You Motherfuckers” is a comedic work that has always made me laugh uncontrollably. Even when I was too young to fully understand most of the jokes in that particular standup routine, his physical motions, use of curses and taboo sex phrases, as well as his urban Chicago colloquialisms were enough to have tears dripping from my eyes and a boisterous sound of laughter coming from my mouth, loud enough that it would cause my mother to come into my room and investigate what all the fuss was about. Despite the obvious comedic subject matter of works of comedy done by comedians such as Bernie Mac, there are numerous underlying reasons that attribute to the humor that is expressed through our laugher and enjoyment. Through his lively stage presences and sociological motifs, Bernie Mac was able to enlighten the world on the various cultural aspects of urban life by his use of social and psychological cues that capture our attention, giving us directions on how to react, providing us with an increased social awareness though satirical methods, and making light of taboo topics regarding the themes of sex and gender roles.
The delivery all throughout the speech kept me focused in the message. The biggest thing that kept me glued was the rate of speech. There were moments where he paused and others where he sped up while he paced back and forth across the stage. He also wasn’t serious the whole time. He threw in jokes here and there but in the end he made sure people understood the true meaning of the message.
I used to cram fancy-schmancy words into my essay, in part following classmate’s examples from classes like World History where the language wasn’t at all important. Because of the insecurity in my own voice, it took me a while to develop humor. My art memoir was even pretty dry in part because of the depressing topic, but also because I just didn’t put any humor in. My D.A.R.E. essay was much more fun to write because I got to joke around with it, using words like “devil’s lettuce” and “It 's easy to paint the "bad eggs" as
Not to mention he never let go of his faith in God and believed in his dream which led to his great success today. However he is a man who gives to people and helps with different charities. He is a man of inspiration who used one passion, which led him to the road of success. His writing, producing and directing over the years has inspired so many people. However he has inspired millions of people to not only dream, but make their dream a reality. He did not let his struggles keep him down. He has inspired me to do better through his testimony.I’am a huge fan of his work, today I dream bigger because of him being an inspiration to my life.A man who had a dream and used his sense of humor to bring joy to so many people in this world who are struggling. His struggles did not break him but made him. Furthermore he continues to inspire people through his movies, plays, and his Faith in

Entertaining anecdotes on the other hand, are very amusing to me especially, Jerry Seinfeld talking about his halloween. The ecstatic mood combined with the childhood memories of him talking about how he wanted more and more candy was joyous and entertained all of us. Additionally, the clever wordplay he put throughout the whole speech like up for kids and down for adults made it easier for us to connect with his story. An amusing comedian to listen to is Jim Gaffigan, who amazes his audience every single time. His appearance on Conan was especially exciting because of his satirical manner of making fun of health trends. The way he said to his wife that he wouldn’t waste perfectly good ice-cream, made me giggle a lot. The final example of what makes me laugh is Mr. Bean. Physical comedy may not be for everyone, but the way Mr. Bean used his body to exaggerate the fact that he did not want to walk up to the top to get his swimsuit so he finds another one laying on the ground while a person is looking at
Have people ever wondered why they laugh when there is something funny said? Why people laugh has always been a big mystery up until a few years ago. According to a PhD titled Robert Provine, laughter has always and will always be known to mankind. Humor has made a great effect on many people, and inside of it consists of love, and kindness.Everyone knows how to laugh, people do not have to learn how to laugh. Humor and laughter comes naturally to most humans. “Why we laugh is simple, the answer is humor” (nbcnews.com). Humor comes from the word humorous. “At first, the word humorous came from referring to the body’s language and moods, but then it transitioned to the words we speak that laughter is the source of” (Vocabulary.com). Humor means the quality of being amusing or comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech (Google Search)
Although Cosby has had a university education and received many honorary degrees, which few achieve, nonetheless, he is associated more as a successful entertainer than a scholarly educator. Interestingly, Cosby has self-described himself more of a class clown than an academician during schooling. Cosby started his entertainment career as a stand-up comedian doing performances across America during his younger years. Comedians have a notorious talent for stirring up crowds and encouraging clamor from the audience. They compose jokes that anyone can relate to and, thus, reach broad demographics during their performances. The talent has remained with Cosby to present and is manifested within the tone of his speeches as well.
Humor is more than just amusing entertainment to pass the time. Though jokes and witty banter can be shallow, humor can go deeper than surface level to convey messages to audiences who would otherwise be close-minded about certain ideas. Humor is a great tool to get audiences to change the way they think, feel, and act. In “Saying Goodbye to Yang,” Alexander Weinstein uses humor to criticize some of society’s faults such as the way it has become heavily reliant on technology, racially insensitive, and judgmental.
For this assignment, I chose to abstain from the use of profanity. I chose to give up profanity because it is something that I know will be difficult for me. I also chose this particular activity to give up because I associate my use of profanity with a very hard time in my life. Since that time, I have worked very diligently to be a better person and to erase the aspects of the person that I used to be. By giving up the use of profanity, I will be able to start erasing another aspect of that person that I did not like very much. One reason why abstaining from the use of profanity will be so difficult for me is because of how long I have been using profanity. I started using profanity at a fairly young age, probably 5th or 6th grade, and since then I use profanity every day, multiple times a day. I think I started using profanity because in the 6th grade my mother had a stroke and during that time I felt like no one was listening to me. My family was very wrapped up in my mom’s care and I felt like I was being forgotten about. I remember one day in class I used profanity in front of the whole class and my teacher stopped what she was doing and addressed my profanity use in front of everyone. At that moment, I realized that by using profanity I could get attention. In the past, I have tried to abstain from profanity; however, it has never lasted very long. I remember one time I was able to abstain from profanity for about a week. However, once I started using profanity again, I realized that trying to stop was a lost cause.
Never forget to laugh. "If you can laugh at it, you can survive it" (Cosby). Life is difficult for everyone. It is how people deal with these strives and struggle is what matters. Sometimes, the best way to get a break from the hardships of life is to simply laugh with friends and family. It’s a Balance process. Some people can be caught up in life’s problems and forget to laugh. Laughter is the mental medicine for life. Laughter supports the health of the body. Laughter can break up the quietness in a room. Laughter can change the room from black and white to a rainbow of colors. Laughter is a result of looking at something in a positive light. Is the glass half empty or half full? Whatever the circumstance, never underestimate the power of a good giggle. Never forget to laugh.
Humor has been the source of entertainment throughout history. Today humor is practiced in movies, plays, songs, television shows and radio. Humor has brought fame and fortune to those who have mastered its power.
The nature of comedy has always left it somewhat resistant to critical analysis, and to some extent the same can be said for comedic actors. The class-clowns of Hollywood like Will Ferrell are often times constructed as being nothing more than amusing, so they seem lik...
It’s just so unpredictable because of how quiet you were, but then again so not surprising because you would always come up with these crazy ideas. It’s unbelieveable how far you’ve come. I will always remember the day you walked into the living room to tell us that we were allowed to come to your first comedy open mic. We almost laughed, thinking you were kidding. How was a kid that never talked to even his own family going to get up on a stage to tell a whole crowd a couple of jokes? We always knew you were funny, but we had no idea what to expect. I think the question everyone wondered the most was, “When did you decide that you wanted to try comedy?” You told us, “I don’t know. Every time I would present something for one of my classes I would end up making people laugh and I wasn’t even trying to be funny, so I just started writing a couple of jokes.” I just remember thinking that this is definitely something you were seriously going to do because you 're the type of person who gets an idea in their head and makes it happen. (expand more during lead out). I think we all knew this comedian thing wasn’t just a phase. You weren’t going to stop at open mics. When you set your mind something, you don’t give up until it’s the best. The thing is you don’t even have to try to make it the best, it all comes natural to
