Discovery is a transitional and transformative process, which influences the values and perception of individuals. The film Life Of Pi directed by Ange Lee conveys how an individual's discoveries can change their perspectives of themselves and the world around them. The physical, emotional and spiritual discoveries, the protagonist encounters empower its viewers through its wide-eyed spirituality and magic realism. Outside the protection of his family and the zoo, Pi discovers his own significance while dealing with the harsh truth of reality. This odyssey begins with an undershot of him in the gushing ocean emphasizing his vulnerability, where he’s emotions conflict with the facts as he becomes reluctant to undertake this journey. He reaches a realization when a sustained wide shot shows his configuration suspended above the ship as he swims to face his future leaving behind his past. Pi’s emotional change due to the sudden occurrence of loss leads him to transform his mortality in the face of survival where he embraces his current values. William ErnestHill own experiences motivated him to share his perception of enduring life’s harsh consequences through his poem Invictus Where he describes his soul as unconquerable and numb to pain “I have not winced nor cried aloud” His use of hyperbole “Under the bludgeoning” explains that through the cruelty of fate, the suffering of either physically, emotionally, or mentally he would not give into his tuberculosis, he would change his fate and fight with his strength this itself is an accurate demonstration of having to endure pain in order to fully recognise the immortality of the soul “I am the master of my fate.
