Over seventy percent of Americans believe news is purposely biased(SPJ Code of Ethics). This shows that the people in America know their news is biased and are okay with it. Media bias is hurting the way people view races, religious groups, and certain jobs. Before investigating the situation wholly, people tend to believe what the media is saying which could be a stretch of the truth or even a lie. This essay is about Media Bias and all of the important information surrounding this controversial topic: journalism ethics, the “myth” of liberal media bias, and police department controversy. Many people believe that liberal media bias is very relevant in this day in age, but really it is just a myth. Conservatives, also known as republicans, tend to forget that most of the American media is influenced heavily by corporate business owners(Schaller 49). Topics such as issues of war and peace, taxes and spending, and government regulation are heavily favorable to the conservatives. A study done by Media Matter for America shows that over sixty percent of U.S. daily newspapers publish conservative journalists rather than liberal(Schaller 49). On the other hand, it is obvious that some hot topics in the news are liberally skewed. Topics such as abortion, gay rights, religion, and gun control are pretty much the only things that have a liberal bias. Police departments are now taking these controversial stories into their own hands. Some departments will no longer release any individual information, but they will publish the whole story so that there is no chance for media companies to report it and skew the information. In reality, everyone should be in this fight together. Everyone, media and public included, want the information and the truth as quickly as possible. Police departments in Milwaukee are teaming up to get the information out as quickly as possible(Guarino 12). They are creating a new website that will release all information as soon as it has been confirmed. This will give them a chance to publish their side of the story before too many media companies can get ahold of the info. This will keep mainstream media from having the ability to skew the information all they want, while people believe them over what the department says. If more than thirty percent of all daily newspapers are liberal and police harassment and racism is a topic that is liberal-favored in the news, it is not hard to figure out why many of these protests are blown out of proportion before they even know the truth(Guarino
