Loeb Strauss, whose name was later changed to Levi, was born on February 26, 1829, in Buttenheim Bavaria in Germany. He was born to his Jewish parents Hirsch Strauss and his second wife, Rebecca Haas Strauss. His father, was a dry goods peddler who traveled around the country selling dry goods. Hirsch Strauss had five other children Jacob, Jonas, Louis, Rosla and Mathilde from his first wife, who had died several years earlier. Loeb and his older sister Fanny were the two children Hirsch had with his second wife. In 1845 Hirsch died of tuberculosis. After this, the already poor Strauss family became much poorer because there was no income. At this time two of Levi’s older brothers Jonas and Louis left for America. Two years later, Rebecca and the other children left on a boat for New York. When Levi got to New York, he was taught the ways of pedaling by his brothers, who had already started a dry goods business called J. Strauss Brother & Co.
In 1848 Levi moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he sold goods from his brother's store. In 1853 he returned to New York upon hearing gold had been discovered in California. He persuaded his two brothers to provide him with a supply of silk, cloth, and a few luxury items, which he planned to sell in San Francisco. He also took a supply of canvas, which he intended to use to make tents, and wagon covers to sell to prospectors who were crossing the continent. In January of 1853 Levi became a United States citizen, and by March of the same year he arrived in San Francisco, by the time he landed, Levi had sold all his goods to passengers on the ship except for the canvas.
When Levi Strauss got to San Francisco, he opened up a dry goods store under his own name representing his family’s New York firm. The name of his firm was "Levi Strauss." At this time the companies main products were the dry goods shipped to it from New York, but this was about to change. While here, a local miner asked if he sold pants. Levi, being a keen business man, decided to make pants from the rolls of canvas originally brought over to make tents, Levi’s were born. When Levi ran out of canvas, his brothers sent him a new fabric called denim.
Brahms?s boyhood days passed uneventfull. He grew up with his brother fritz and sister Elise amid the poorest surroundings. Fritz turned to music (the Neue Zeitschrift mentions his successful debut at Hamburg in January 1864) was a piano teacher in Hamburg, lived for many years in Caracas, and died at an early age in Hamburg of a disease of the brain. Elise married a watchmaker, much to Johannes? disappointment.
Pants are packaged differently for all different types of people. Levi’s jeans are synonymous with being American, being created by Americans and worn by Americans of all status and type. They can evoke the image of dude ranches and overalls, hard work on the farms and easy lounging in the Midwest. Over the years as more companies started to make and sell jeans, Levi’s has had to change their image in order to attract more and new consumers, but going on their website, their front page will still show a lone grizzled man, a tattoo running along his right arm, sleeves short, sweat covering his strained face, standing ready on an open endless field, of course, wearing a pair of Levi’s jeans. Now go to the website for Guess, a company which focuses more on the style than the use of the jeans, and there are pictures strewn around like photographs, featuring muscular men with unbuttoned shirts blowing in the wind. With their scruffy faces and golden tans, the men on the site ...
The life span of 37 years saw Vincent Willem van Gogh (Vincent) in creating beautiful works he dearly loved. Painting was an avenue, which allowed him to express his inner thoughts or vent his struggles. My decision to research on Vincent’s painting, Starry Night (1889) came with the inspiration from Don Mclean’s Song, Starry Starry Night where his lyrics spoke about Vincent’s life that further intrigued me in writing this paper.

Nike and the athletic shoe industry have evolved into one of the most competitive market in recent years. But, analysts believe that athletic shoe sales will slow down over the next few years. The slowdown will come with the change in consumer trends. For instance, the younger market is beginning to buy more casual shoes and work boots. The production of these jeans is such an intimately global event that we all play different roles in their production and consumption. So now lets take a deeper look at where those Levi’s really came from and see how global it really is. Jeans have quite a history, starting with the one and only Levi Strauss, he was a shopkeeper in San Francisco, which at the time was a rapidly expanding city in the 1800’s. The gold rush was on and everybody was traveling to California to strike gold of their own. The Miners had to endure very harsh cold, rocky and muddy conditions, standard clothes of the day were not quite getting the job done.
Hubert de Givenchy was born on February 20, 1927 in Beauvais, France. When he was young his father died, leaving him to be raised by his mother and grandfather. His wealthy family never approved of Givenchy’s love for fashion and instead wanted him to attend college and pursue a career in law. Eventually he attended college achieving his career in law but realized his love for fabrics and fashion was stronger (In influential fashion, 2002).

Mr.Lauren had more dreams to fulfill. He chose the name Polo for his line of ties because the sport repsented to him a lifestyle of athletic grace and discreet elegance, an image of men who wore well-tailored, classic clothes and wore them with style. With that image in mind, Mr Lauren established Polo as a separate menswear company in 1968, producing a complete line of men's clothes. Using only the finest fabrications, Mr. Lares's menswear was distinctive, innovative, but always classic and refined. His suits blended the American Ivy League natural shoulder silhouette with the fitted shape and expensive fabrics of the best European custom tailored clothing. His shirts were all cotton, richly patterned and expertly made. This same care was, and still is, applied to every element of...
Vincent was the first born child out of six, and the son of a Methodist preacher in Holland. Vincent was named after their other first child who was didn’t survive birth. As a child, Vincent spent little attention to the art that he would forever be known for and was instead quiet and kept to himself. Vincent’s best friend and favorite family member was his younger brother, Theo, whom supported him heavily through life. Vincent had many occupations in his early life before becoming an artist, which included being a bookstore clerk, an art salesman, and a
Vincent Van Gogh is often remembered for his enigmatic personality. In the novel, he is portrayed as timid and unsure of himself. Although Stone takes a lot of creative license with the novel, the book version of Van Gogh sounds very similar to the real one. In the novel he says, "You cannot be firmly certain about anything. You can only have enough courage and strength to do what you consider to be right. Maybe it turns out that was wrong, but still you would have done his, and it is most important" (Stone, Irving). This quotation accurately summarizes up much of Van Gogh's character. He is hesitant about the choices he makes in life, yet he does not regret them. This is an integral characteristic that the writer chose to emphasize. Much of Van Gogh's art is based off of that concept of

Choosing a sexual preference is considered one of the biggest decisions of one’s life. Among the human race, heterosexuality (the attraction to persons of the opposite sex) is considered normal. However, over the years, homosexuality (the attraction to persons of the same sex) has become more common. The origin of homosexuality dates back as far as the 5th century B.C. Homosexuality became very popular in ancient Greece. The Greeks approved of same-sex relationships. When homosexuality first became popular though, the relationships were rarely sexual. Most relationships were usually between older men and younger boys. These relationships were more of courtship rituals than anything. In other parts of the world though, homosexuality was kept a secret among couples for many years. Unbelievably, it is still hidden today. It is kept a secret because in society, homosexuality is not considered normal. Therefore, to avoid being judged, ridiculed and belittled, homosexuality is conducted in secrecy. Over the years however, homosexuals have grown tired of not being able to do what they believe in, when and where they pleased. Many homosexuals began to fight for their rights to do as they pleased. What non-supporters of homosexuality thought or said about homosexuals no longer affected the homosexual community. Although many people still disagree with homosexuality, our society today has begun to accept homosexuals as a norm.
The improvements to coffee brewers and the innovation of Keurig has allowed for Starbucks to repackage their products and distribute it as a home product. Many of the flavors consumers could only get from the Starbucks espresso machine in the store can now be duplicated in the home. The opportunity for continued expansion is present. Coffee is quickly being consumed in almost every country in the world, Starbucks has a legitimate opportunity to influence those countries without the Starbucks brand to open their doors.
INTRODUCTION: As a retail major at Florida State, I have been able to learn a lot about my love for fashion. One thing that is true about me is that I love to understand the origins behind different subjects, whether that is my family or, in this case, piece of clothing. Perfectly tying those two worlds together, I am going to be talking about the origins of denim jeans. First I will go over the history, then I will go over how jeans became popular, and lastly I will talk
