Childhood leukemia is a cancer of the early blood forming cells. Mostly, it is a cancer of the white blood cells, but some types of leukemia start in other blood cell types. Leukemia begins in the bone marrow. The disease then spreads rapidly throughout the blood. From there, it can go throughout other places of the body such as the central nervous system, liver, and other organs.
Leukemia by definition is a form of cancer in the blood cells that are produced in the bone marrow. Normally, blood cells are made in a regulated way. Leukemia develops when the bone marrow generates abnormal cells; as a result, the same cells that are responsible for fighting infections and preventing bleeding are not made properly (Hopkins, 2014). There are two types of leukemia, which is acute and chronic leukemia. The difference between chronic and acute leukemia is that chronic leukemia develops over time while acute leukemia progresses over a short period and get worse rapidly.

What is Leukemia? Leukemia is a type of cancer that involves the white blood cells as they are produced in the soft tissue of the bone (bone marrow). In this condition there is an abnormal growth and multiplication of white blood cells, of which there are two types (lymphocytes and myelocytes). This results in crowding out of the red blood cells and platelets in the blood, resulting in anemia, weakness, fever, joint pains, and bleeding tendencies. Leukemia may be acute or chronic, depending on the rate of progression of the disease.
Blood cells form in the bone marrow and when too many blood cells form in the human body then Leukemia cancer is developed. There are three different types of blood cells that increase out of control and are produced in the bone marrow which are White blood cells [leukocytes], Red blood cells [erythrocytes] and Platelets. White blood cells are part of the immune system and help fight off infections. They too aid in the curing of sores, wounds and cuts. Red blood cells hold haemoglobin which carries oxygen and takes out carbon dioxide to and from the cells throughout different organs of the body.
