I have written many different kinds of essays for different purposes, and I make progress one step a time by accumulating experience. Every article I make effort on can teach me how to write in a better and proper way. After writing so much, I find that counseling is the key to progress. Counseling can inspire me of new concepts, help me reconstruct my essay and correct errors that I may not notice. The process of editing my college application essay made me aware of the importance of counseling, and after that I started to ask others for counseling when I wrote articles.
Writing under pressure leads writers to include all th... ... middle of paper ... ...t. Writing prompts make writers creative and helps them further ideas they already have or create new ideas all together. Prompts lead to a structured format for writing when evaluated properly. Applying research to a writing sample is one of the best ways to establish and further opinions. It is important to present research correctly and to cite it accurately to avoid removing credibility from the source. A writer’s best sample will only become “nearly perfect” once those habits that weaken writing disappear.
The author should have an idea of what they want their writing to achieve, that way they will know if they succeeded or not. There is a vast amount of books and essays written in the world, yet many believe that very few are considered good. The most important thing good writing does is pounding information into the reader’s brain so that they remember the main ideas. A real life effect that can come from this would be the adoption of the author’s opinion to the reader, and then the spreading of the author’s ideas to other people. This type of writing can be achieved with the organization of the text, keeping the subject interesting, and keeping away from repetitiveness, replacing it with synonyms and adjectives.
At the start of writing Peer Review Essay #1 I had many top... ... middle of paper ... ...me and unnecessary, but the process of feedback and revision was essential, it not only helped me fix my errors, but it also allowed me to reassess and better structure my essay. As a result I believe that the progress I have made in my writing during the course of English 1B has changed my negative views of writing. As silly as it may sound to say that my fears about writing papers have been defeated, they have. Whether they are short reviews or extensive research papers, I have become more comfortable in writing. I have not only learned how to write and express myself more effectively, by organizing my critical thoughts, but most importantly I have learned that review and revision is an essential part of the writing process.
In conversation I feel Kathleen Yancey would introduce a similar yet interesting outlook on revising to Rose and Lamott because in Learning to Write Effectively Requires Different Kinds of Practice, Time and Effort, Yancey illustrates revision in the form of seeing if what you wrote was what you thought you were writing and the question of if it will fit with the perception of the audience. I thought that this was a pretty interesting outlook for Yancey to develop in the context of
When I take my time I can elaborate and connect with my audience. I need to work on not being choppy when I type and use better transition words. Know how to use punctuation correctly, and understand the basics of writing a little bit better. What I will carry out this class is to demonstrate understanding of rhetorical situation and elements of published essays, nonfiction, and fiction by way of active and critical reading. This course improved some of my vocabulary.
Also, I have trouble with when I use a quote from a book how to introduce it and explain why I chose it. I hope to overcome these obstacles next semester. However, I feel my strengths were collecting information after I understood what I was reading and also adding evidence in my papers. Once I took notes on my reading and then read over my notes a couple times it was easier for me to lay out an outline and come up with ideas to talk about. The evidence I would always choose would be quotes from the books, which I feel I picked the right ones to use.
It seems that people are more concerned with correct grammar then content. It is important to have good grammar, punctuation, and spelling, but what you have to say is the most important. People spend so much time worrying about what their paper looks like, then what it sounds like. Sitting down to write a paper can be intimating and sometimes it is hard to organize our thoughts to put them down on paper. I feel that reading books like Style: Lessons in Clarity and Grace is helpful, but practice is the key to good writing.
Constructing a better sentence is also one of the things I should work on. I still have the tendency to construct a confusing sentence that I also get confuse on when I read it. People always say that practice makes it perfect, and that is what I am going to do. I am going to keep on writing and use the things that I learn to improve my writing skills. By practicing to write and making mistakes, I would learn different things that would improve my writing even
To prove my point one of the reasons I spoke about was the Trayvon Martin incident, of which I felt could affect my readers on an emotional level and get readers to agree with my stance. I believe that proving your points and getting readers to accept and connect with your points is a tremendously essential aspect of writing that this course has taught me. I feel with the help of this course I have significantly improved in this aspect. Although I think essay number one was a quality paper, one regret I have on it would be not providing more history on the stand your ground law. Another aspect that I feel I have been suc... ... middle of paper ... ...on, this course has taught me many different aspects to writing that I was unaware of in high school.
