Introduction
This project integrates the concepts of curriculum design, together with aspects of lesson planning taking into consideration the abilities, level and learning styles of the students. In addition, utilizing the practices put forward under constructivism, we aim to encourage participation and interest of students, within group and individual activities. The teacher acts as facilitator and guide, providing support, feedback and praise where applicable.
Bruner and Haste (1987) described learning as a complex link of language, interaction and cognition. They advocated that it is through interaction and the practice of communication that people learn and that the teacher’s role is to produce a situation where the learner can create their own interpretations with the assistance of interpretations of others in the same environment.
The following lesson plan seeks to integrate the above aspects into the delivery of the Statistical Averages component in the Mathematics syllabus to students of Form 1/Grade 7.

Lesson Plan
Subject: Mathematics
Topic: Statistical Averages
Level: Grade 7/Form 1
Duration: 80 minutes (2 periods/sessions)
General Objectives:
• Prepare students for the implementation of Statistics in further studies.
• Foster the ability of applying statistical knowledge to solve problems which are important to the students in the real life situations.
• Assist students in appreciating the need for taking precautions in collecting, analysing and interpreting statistical data.
Specific Objectives:
• Drawing on previous knowledge students should be able to effectively define the terms; mean, mode and median.
• Using the data collected from the set induction the students should be able to accurately calculate the mea...

...3.
It is important to note that there can be more than one mode and if no number occurs more than once in the set, then there is no mode for that set of numbers.

Data Sheets
The tables below is to be used for the set induction to demonstrate the activity to be done in the lesson. Students are encouraged to organize their data using tables where necessary and to provide diagrams where necessary. They are encouraged to use new representations that help them to organize their data and findings.
