Legalizing prostitution! A way for the American government to create job opportunities for the American women that chooses this profession. Prostitution is legal in many countries, so why not all of the United States? Prostitution should not be a crime! Sex is not a crime. Exchanging of money is not a crime. So, why should the two combined be a crime? Women can have sex with as many people as she wants in her private life, it’s her body and her choice. So what if she charges for it. She is providing a service to those who are consenting to the act. Prostitution is the act of two consensual adults engaging in sexual activity for the exchange of money. Prostitution should be a legitimate industry and problems within the industry are not in the work itself, it’s the people like the pimps that make the problems. It is vulnerability of depending on the pimps that creates victims. Plenty of jobs involve performing a physical service for money, for example, massage therapists, landscapers and exotic dancers. Nobody hesitates to think any of these professions are illegal. There are some that would comment that the prostitution profession is degrading and immoral, but the fact of the matter is, who are we to judge what women choose to do with their body? Anyone over the age of 18 has a right to decide what they want to do as a profession. “Sex workers should enjoy the same labor rights as other workers and the same human rights as other people (President of Britain's General Union, 2006)”. The states willing to legalize prostitution would have to tax and license these prostitutes, and a registry would be made to list legitimate workers online.
