Words. Have you ever really put much thought process behind them? It is universally understood that learning words are an essential part to the education we receive, because they work as the birthplace of where people learn to read, write, and articulate. However, as I’ve said, have you ever sat there and analyzed the genuine meaning behind them? Not just the definitions of several words, but the true implications that words have on the emotions of others. In addition, a word is defined as being a single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically are shown with a space on either side when written or printed. With this being said, one could concur that words serve as this carrier of message, and once tone and mood have been applied to the …show more content…
Through the outlets of song lyrics or even films, words have proven to be sufficient in inspiring and empathizing with the feelings of others, enlightening and encouraging people to take risks due to how persuasive they may be, and broadening the intellectual horizons of the community, which ultimately accentuates the fact that words aren’t just words.
Overtime the platform of how words are conveyed have evolved. Originally, they were conveyed by simply speaking and handwritten letters. However, due to innovative reform especially within film, this “podium” of how messages are disclosed through the utilization of words have expanded vastly. An example that can be correlated to this notion is a film called the Theory of Everything. The Theory of Everything is about how an ingenious man is forced to face the hardship of losing control of most of his limbs, while the brain is still intact and sharp. The movie serves as a testament of how truly powerful words are. Moreover, Stephen Hawking, the protagonist in the film, falls incapable to express his impressive and smart
Words hold great power and when used correctly can influence what people believe and how they act.
Language is more than words and the ability to communicate. It allows the world to express thoughts and ideas, but along with that comes influence and authority—matter that run society. Language impacts society in various ways, both bad and good. Everyday life, even texts and films, portray the effect of language. Whale Rider, “The Myth of the Latin Woman”, and The Crucible demonstrate that language is power.
Flowers stated. I feel as if she is completely right words have little to no meaning without a voice and actions to put them in place. How things happen in this world good or bad, is always when someone has the courage to speak and actually make a change. Imagination is a terrible thing to waste and so is the knowledge you learn. Everything you write can be connected to a higher purpose. To a possible great outcome if you just let the words you speak in your mind with a pencil become the words you speak aloud to
In today’s society there are many words that are used or said without giving it complete thought. For example, the word “identity” is something to which I have never really given much thought or even considered how I identify myself.
Musicians have claimed song writing is their therapy. By it’s very nature, the process of song writing can be both freeing and emotionally challenging on a writer. Song “text often provides an early experience of how to symbolically represent the world, and of how we can use metaphors to understand the meaning of what is happening to us” (Baker et al. 9). Lyrics articulate the values and beliefs of people, which weave their way into the lives of others. In the midst of song writing, an important phenomenon is taking place: the writer is communicating and sharing their thoughts in an intimate way, much like how psychological counseling is seen and used today.
The Powerful Words of Amy Tan, Maxine Hairston, and Mike Rose. The power of words is immeasurable. Words help people to voice their opinions and express their thoughts and feelings. Our everyday lives are shaped by communication and language.
Reminding each other that in order to look at the future the necessity is to deal with the present. According to Sullivan, “real thinking is better done without words than with them, and creative thinking must be done without words”, this is untrue because without words no one is able to think in both real and creative terms. The way people express themselves in writing is because they thought about the words they were going to be using to send the society a message. Sullivan states that people don’t have time to build words, but don’t words help in expanding the thoughts into bigger details. Words help in various forms of expanding the vocabulary and the thought
Words can be used in a variety of different ways from giving somebody a compliment, making an observation, singing a song, or simply just talking to a friend. Words are extremely powerful, and they can be used to accomplish great things such as inspiring millions like Martin Luther King Jr. did during the civil rights movement. However, not all people use words in a responsible, respectful manner. Along with all of the great things people can achieve through the use of words, there are many cases in which words have proved to be dangerous. Words have started wars, been used to bully people, tell lies, and even discriminate against entire races of people. Despite how powerful words are; people often misuse them, or say
in ways that words alone cannot." (Brown, D. L. A. 2014) The text determines the lyrics that are needed to add to the

On October 11, 2017, I watched the film The Theory of Everything. It is a very touching story about the struggles that one man has to endure. This man’s name is Stephen Hawking and is currently a world-renowned astrophysicist. Set at Cambridge University in England, The Theory of Everything tells the story of Stephen Hawking and the many challenges he and those around him must go through because of his debilitating disease, ALS. A very strong relationship is displayed to the viewer in the film. This relationship is between Jane Wilde and Stephen Hawking.
There are many symbols that people encounter when communicating. In a verbal exchange there are abstract and concrete symbols. A concrete symbols represents a specific object (Hybels & Weaver, 2007, pg. 10). There is little room for a person to interpret a concrete symbol or to put another meaning to this. If, for example, the concrete symbol is a television, there may be different types, but the word will have a common picture in everyone’s mind. Abstract symbols are those which stand for ideas (Hybels & Weaver, 2007, pg. 10). As Hybels and Weaver (2007) state, the way in which these words are understood are based on the experiences of the person interpreting the words ( pg. 10). Take the word love; most people will have different ideas and feelings towards what the word love means. When abstract words are used over concrete words in the workplace, the can allow for more miscommunications or misunderstandings to occur. If one person has a very positive understanding of an abstract word, bu...
Words can be beautiful, destructive, and manipulative. Language is central to all our lives, and arguably the cultural tool that sets humans apart from any other species. Language enables us to express our wishes, feelings, likes, dislikes, and ideas; it can be a symbolic function. Language also plays a role in how we affect other people, and how we make others feel, achieved just by our choice of words. By observing the language and the behavior of other people, one is provided with valuable information about personality type. If one listens closely they can better understand a friend’s temperament. By paying close attention to others, how they speak, how they dress, and facial expressions, we can better understand the wants of those around as and how they function as a person. The play Othello is full of rich dialogue with characters speaking eloquently and exquisitely to one another, “Yet I 'll not shed her blood, Nor scar that whiter skin of hers than snow, And smooth as monumental
For some people, they think that words are more significant than the actions. Although, the words can express and influence someone expressions, feelings and thoughts, yet, it is only the reflection of the action (Mina, 2012). Sometimes words are lies, they do not give any effect or impact. Words mean little and cannot be seen or proven if no actions are taken.
Most of us in today’s society do not realize how powerful words can be and how huge of an impact they can have on our lives. I remember the day when my son said his first words,
