According to CAESC (2007) and Zeiger (2010), the most essential learning time of the day for the students lies in the morning, specifically between 8:00 to 9:30 AM. It is because the students are most mindful and observant at this time of the day. It is also the reason why the most important lessons and subject matters are discussed during this time. So, when students are late or are not present during this time of the day, they, in effect, miss out most of the important lessons to be noted and learned.
Learning is a progressive activity; each day's lessons build upon those of the previous day(s) so it is unhealthy for student to skip some instructions and important announcements due to late arrival caused by traffic. Many

Another factor that could affect the punctuality of a student is the response of the teachers to tardy students. Sprick and Daniels (2007) stated that the range of the teachers’ response was “from ignoring them to sending them to office” (p. 21). This variation could lead the students to confusion as to how important it is to be on time in going to class. Another reason is the lack of motivation. Students who come to school on time are not given incentives or rewards. Also, responses to tardiness are lenient, that is nothing is done until the tenth strike or more. Another reason is “giving the student the impression that they won’t be missing anything if they are late” since in some classes, no important activities or instructions and no lessons are being done for first few minutes. Lastly, crowded hallways could create traffic, thus blocking the way of other students and making it hard for them to pass …show more content…
It creates problems, not just to the students but also to the teachers (Cowan Avenue Elementary School Community, 2007, para 1). Cowan Crier, the official School Publication of CAESC, also states that while having “occasional tardy” isn’t a big deal, unfailing tardiness is and it gives students problems including being ill-prepared for the job market. According to the results of the study of the U.S. Department of Education on “truancy”, which is related to tardiness, being present and on time in going to school are big factors on the “success and behavior” of the students (Zeiger, 2010, para 1). Thus, it is a lot important to value time and practice being on time while being a
Students should not feel the anxiety of being late to class based on the CSUF parking issues. Tardiness often suggests that students could be lazy or show lack of care for their education. On the other hand, tardiness may be different at a school similar to CSUF. Titan students will quickly learn that they must show up to school an hour early in order to find a parking space, if they are lucky. Due to students not being capable of finding a parking space on time, they are generally tardy to their college courses. In this case, student’s education should not be affected due to parking issues. However, colleges are not as impacted in the summer, therefore, students should not be expected to worry about finding an open location to park. Although, several students may have disagreed that the parking lot tends to be impacted in the summer as well. For example, I attend a summer course for English, having
Chronemics, also known as the study of time, varies greatly from culture to culture. The American culture is very adamant about time, that if one is late to an event, a negative message is usually attached to their behavior. Arriving to class or to a meeting on time is a typical norm for this
Why Schools Should Continue Starting at Eight Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
In a homework assignment i did for intro to law i had to ask a student what rule they wanted to change and a lot of students overheard about 15 and said the tardy policy because it takes away from are learning. This tardy Policy affects everyone. Some students that know that they will be late rather not show up because they rather not get the 30 min detention. As a student many classmates have done this , they like school but they don't want to serve a detention during or after school. Teachers are instructed to close the doors as soon as the bells ring and if you don't make it on time that's your “fault” , then what happens is you'll just stay outside of class waiting till the staff pass by to sweep you up and take you to your
In the schools that have pushed back starting times, studies show that there is less tardiness, higher grade point averages in the morning classes, and less car crashes involving teens. Students that attend these later start schools come more awake, attentive and prepared for the day.
Early school start times affect the mental and physical health of students. If schools start later, students would be more ready to learn. With the early start times, students are not getting enough sleep and that is affecting their performance in earlier classes. They come to these classes like zombies and do not really take in what they are hearing.
Throughout my school career, I always had perfect attendance, until moving houses I accumulated a total of 45 tardies which is equivalent to 15 absences. Not only was I tardy all the time, I was also unable to participate in afterschool activities because if I did then I will arrive in my house at
Why it is important to do your work on time, and how does it affect others? This prompt simple answers itself the reason why it is important to do your work on time is because it affects other people, but how it affects people is the real question. It affects people in many different ways like making the teacher go back and grade something she already graded, and another is in this incident it almost made the class take a test.
School days starting later would help improve student attendance by a lot! For example, a copious amount of students oversleep which results in lateness to school. However, if school started at least one to two hours later, then the students perhaps will not be late, and as a result, they can...
It seems that many students do in fact procrastinate and that it negatively affects some. Procrastination is usually due to poor time management skills. That being said, poor time management affects many aspects of life and therefore, students may be having difficulty in the personal lives also due to poor time management. From the survey results, it appeared that females care more about their studies and habits than males do. This can be problematic eventually because going through life and university, you are forced to give value to academics and time and therefore, students need to be taught from now to care more. Most females said that they feel upset if they procrastinate. This can be because their psyche and mind are not at rest during procrastination. Their minds stay on their obligations and their delay even when physically, they are occupied. They become preoccupied occasionally until they complete whatever they are procrastinating. The same can be said for males although 8 out of 10 males said that they do not feel upset. This may mean that many of them do not give value to their obligations or time as they do not care if they procrastinated and therefore do not feel upset or at all
Punctuality is important when it comes to careers, school, and everyday life. If people show up late there are many repercussions, some worse than others, that happen when a person fails to be punctual. It can be seen as a difficult task when it comes to being on time if a person procrastinates, but once the proper steps are taken it becomes hard not to be punctual. The proper tasks in order to be punctual every time include: Knowing why punctuality is important, knowing what needs to be done and when it has to be done, knowing how long it will take to drive to the destination, and setting more than one alarm at an appropriate time. These tasks are the key to being successful because if something goes wrong there is still plenty of time to make it on time.
when a student is absent without an excuse from a class 3 times in a school year the student becomes truant(school attendance improvement strategies,1). being late to class for more than 30
Academic failure is an effect of procrastination. Zoe Levin in her article, “Negative Effects Of Procrastination And How To Overcome Them,” states procrastination in school causes a decrease in grades and school success. Students no longer take the time to complete assignment, resulting to them putting it off, begin to receive poor grades. Levin also states the future of the students has become a burden, therefore schoolwork has become more important affecting their future. In addition, procrastination can damage your health. Association for Psychological Science in their article, “Better Get To Work: Procrastination May Harm Heart Health,” says chronic procrastination can cause people to become more defenseless to illness. Chronic procrastination can cause a series of health problems such as headaches, digestive issues, cold and flus, and insomnia. Furthermore, people who procrastinate have been found to sleep poorly. According to Curejoy Editorial in their article, “How Does Procrastination Affect Your Health And Well Being,” states a procrastinator who consumes a low amount of rest at night, finds that it is tougher to stay awake during the day. As a result, the person tends to experience more stress, and restlessness. Eventually causing them to use medicines or harmful substances to help cope. Staying on top of tasks and health, having a balanced sleep schedule can protect you from having these certain
The first effect is that a student forgets to finish his or her work after putting it off for something less important. Secondly, students rush through their work due to time wasted. The next effect is a good effect. It is when a student produces his or her best work when they start their work early or late. The last of the four effects of procrastination is the outcome of not studying or just being lazy and it is cheating. Unfourntly, when people put themselves in situations where time is a problem they procrastinate. For example, most people who procrastinate do not use their time wisely; procrastinators are usually the ones who wait until the day before an assisgnment is due to do
Both tardiness and absenteeism can be influenced by a lack of support from the community, family support, transportation problems, poor health, etc. (Teasley, 2004). Other possible reasons that may influence students to be absent are those that come from the school environment. Lacking support from teachers, feeling unsafe because of bullying or other factors, difficulty with content, etc., are some examples. Ken Reid’s article “The causes, views and traits of school absenteeism and truancy” explains that secondary school student’s reasons for being absent are school-related (Reid, 2005). Because of this research, secondary school teachers are in the position to question, ask then fix the problems in the classroom that are causing a student or students to be frequently absent especially when students may feel like these things are out of their control causing them to feel like they are caught in a cycle where there is no way to salvage their
