Over this semester we have taken many tests that have showed us our skills and abilities and our performance as a leader. These include the Heresy-Blanchard Leadership Style Questionnaire, Communication styles test, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. However, other sources of leadership such as birth order or where you were raised can define you as a leader. All of these aspects combined show us our leadership style and what we have to improve upon to be come an even better leader.
For the strengths and weaknesses interview, I was told that my strengths included a great conversationalist, pro-active on tasks, an excellent goal setter and having a get it done approach. I was also told my weaknesses were that I lack self-confidence, I can be a perfectionist, improve my low stress tolerance. Also, I tend to take over projects due to my

These influence my style of leadership as when I am in my comfort zone I am a much better leader and when I am in a larger group. In a larger group I state my opinion but I wait until everyone else said what they wanted to say, which may show me as a quiet individual rather than possessing the qualities of being a successful leader.Social sources also have a large influence in your leadership style. For example since I am an only child, I am more responsible and tend to have higher self-esteem than the youngest in the family. However, I may tend to like to work alone rather than with others as I was not raised with siblings. It is also stated that men and women differ in their leadership styles. Women tend to be more organized and tend to explain their actions and if their unfamiliar with a topic, they seek expert help. These three traits that women generally exhibit when in leadership positions, I see in myself. Culture also plays a large role in leadership, since I
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
Leadership is almost entirely gained through experience. Although many personalities are more suitable for leadership or less, like being good at time management (as good) or very quiet (as bad), there is almost nothing in a persons behavior as a leader that comes from external forces
The role of leadership has become increasing valuable for organizations to be successful. According to Huber (2014), Leadership can best be defined as method utilized to ensure that an objective is completed. There are many different types of leaderships that can be found within each organization. In this paper I will highlight an example of a specific leadership style that we come across in healthcare settings. I will review my leadership self-assessment results and discuss the impact of leadership on staff and groups.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud
According to the book, understanding personality is essential for effective leadership. Without an understanding of self, there cannot be a clear understanding of how others perceive you as a leader. (Ledlow & Coppola, 2014) In order to figure out your leadership style you have to have an understanding of who you are. This can be done by taking a series of personality assessments to see what you best fit into.
Leaders come forth depending on the kind of situation, in which they are need. This type of leadership is typically known as “situational leadership,” where the key concept is every situation is different, so each situation requires a specific, unique leader. For a person to be a great leader, one does not have to necessarily assume a “bossy” persona, which is stereotypically characterized with all leaders, but being a leader based on listening. Being this background leader is known to many as, “servant leadership.” Servant and situational leadership is how I can characterize my leadership style so far since I have joined the student leadership community at Hillwood High School.
Some of my weaknesses are procrastination and impatience, but I am taking proactive measures to resolve these issues. I have started putting reminders on my phone that helps me to remember when I need to start working. This will also help me keep my time spread out so that way if I get impatient with my computer or I can’t think of anything then I have time to take a break and think. Some of my strengths are my determination, my easy going nature and getting along with other people. (Even when no one else seems to get along with that person.) I also try to keep a positive attitude whenever times are getting stressful and it seems impossible to get what needs to be done accomplished.
What is a leader? Who are chosen to be leader, and why are they chosen? What set these certain individuals aside from everyone else? A leader is someone who can encourage even those with feeble hearts, insecure souls and self-doubting minds. A leader takes not only their vision but everyone’s vision and create one beautiful creation that is seen throughout the world. My experiences with leadership range from the worst to the best. Once holding a great leadership position myself, I can testify the benefits of great leadership and the disadvantages of horrible leadership. Through my experience with great leadership and the effects on the people, it seemed to the naked eye that everyone was thinking the same thing at the same time. In actually it was the leader uniting the members together on one common chord to produce a sound that would remain in the souls. A leader is someone who not only leads, but also encourages people to do their best, share a collectively common idea or passion with a group, and challenge the process of a traditional style.
Thesis statement: Leadership depends on the leader’s leadership style and there way of communicating ideas rather than the leader themselves. Both women and men believe in similar leadership styles however women prefer a more participative leadership approach.
My strengths include an uncanny open-mindedness and an unrelenting kindness and gratitude towards my fellow humans. If I was to ever have any true weaknesses trying to hard is the first one. My need to be a perfectionist sometimes gets the best of me; I strive for excess in all areas of my life. I think it is of the most importance to understand your strengths and weakness. I’ve improved my strengths through exposure and emphasis. From the beginning I always found a passion in my school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, I went on to lead them for the last two years. I am an exceptional member of my school’s National Honor’s Society, and I have done more than what is expected of me at my job at Hy-Vee and have been proud to do so. My abilities and performances have taught me a lot throughout life and I have discovered who I am and what I can be. I have found that I am a leader. I have found that I am in control of the situations I find myself in. I’ve grown throughout my trials by finding the lesson in every circumstance. I am adaptable and continually grow from my misgivings. I choose to see the glass half full and see in the positive. Every weakness that I have is a strength waiting to be built upon. To uphold these standards for myself I will need to draw upon all that I
Tearing down the walls of perfectionism is essential in today’s imperfect society. Especially, when the false idea of leaders are needed to be perfect in their leadership abilities and personality traits. The leadership style of Imperfect leader is a leadership style that all leaders demonstrate, whether if they deny it or not. For the Personal Leadership Philosophy Paper, the essay begins with the illustration of the Old Testament Leader known as Moses and his imperfections, as an imperfect leader. Despite his imperfections, God still called upon Moses to remove the Hebrew slaves from Egypt to Israel. The imperfections of this Old Testament leader set the tone of evaluating myself as an imperfect leader who is not afraid of addressing my strengths and weaknesses as a
I believe that four traits really stand out that make an effective leader. The first trait is self-confidence and this is such an important trait because if you are not confident in your own skills as a leader, your followers will begin to doubt you and your abilities to lead. When you are self-confident as a leader, you are certain in your abilities to influence other people. The second characteristic is determination which is the desire to get the job efficiently and correctly. When you are a determined, you are being proactive and taking initiative to get a job done which is what most leaders do daily (Northouse 25). They understand what needs to be done and support their followers to follow the proper steps to complete a project. The third trait is integrity and it is the quality of being trustworthy and honest. People do not want to follow someone who they cannot trust, which is why this trait is very important. A true leader that shows integrity is making a mistake and owning up to it without trying to pass the blame off to somebody else. The final important characteristic that I think is important is sociability. It is the ability to seek out positive relationships with your followers by being outgoing, courteous, and tactful (Northouse 26). When you are a sociable leader, you followers feel comfortable with you and are more likely to come to you with
There are many components that make up one’s leadership style. These leadership components are unique to each individual and how each individual presents his or her self. The perception of whether or not an individual is a good leader is sometimes swayed because of their values or their ethical behavior. In general a leader is a person that has the skills to manage individuals and get these individuals to follow him or her. The text Developing Management Skills states “In order to be an effective manager, in other words, individuals must be competent in: (1) clan skills, or a focus on collaboration; (2) adhocracy skills, or the focus on creation; (3) market skills, or a focus on competition; and (4) hierarchy skills, or a focus on control” (Whetten & Cameron, 2014, p. 16).
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. Leadersip can not definied by just one word but by action. I have seen development within myself through my volunteer service. Leadership is both a research area and a practical opportunity to share the ability gained as a individual, also through my organizations to lead or guide other individual team members who have a common goal. Volunteering in the church organizations matches my need to be of service to others. While volunteer at Fallbrook church I in return have been served I have been guided, nurtured, and challenge through the process. I have been
