Leadership is such a big part of our world today, because it shapes us into the
person we are. Everyone has that person that they can go to for any advice or problems
they need help with. Leadership can be defined in many different ways in today’s society.
I believe that John Kotter defines leadership the best, he claims, “Leadership defines
what the future should look like, aligns people with that vision, and inspires them to
make it happen despite the obstacles.” I believe that definition is great, but it does not talk
about how a leader should have good character. Having good character is an important trait because he or she should want the people who they are leading to trust them and
their decisions.(It seems as if you

For one goal while I am here at Troy I would like to get more involved in Greek
life. Greek life is such a big asset here at Troy. I would like to have an executive position
in my fraternity; in turn, I could help make it better on campus. I would like to get the
fraternity more involved with campus activities and have more presence during rush
week. Another way I would like to use my leadership skills here at Troy is through the
Risk Management and Insurance department, which is my major here at Troy. This
department is growing at a very high rate and already has some great leaders within the
program now. Once I get into my higher years here at Troy I will be able to join the RMI
society and plan trips to different conventions as well as plan events on here on campus.
Having a leadership role in the major I have chosen can highly benefit me in my career
path following college. If I am successful here at Troy in my leadership positions it can
help with recommendations and resumes when applying for jobs in the future. In the
future I would like to work for the head office of Farm Bureau Insurance in

By being consistent as a leader you can gain respect from different individuals
you are trying to lead. If someone is consistent they can also gain trust as a leader from
the group. I believe that if I were to have respect and be fair towards the people I am
trying to lead then they will give the same respect in return. Being honest with a group
can also be a great asset. If a leader is not honest with their group then it can affect how
the group treats the leader. I do not think that of there is a problem someone should sugar
coat it. I believe it should be addressed and fixed right away so that tensions will not
build within a group. The last characteristic is being flexible. As a leader I believe that I
should be open to everyone’s ideas in a group and not just my own. Someone may have a
more logical idea that works better than mine, so I should not shoot down someone’s
ideas if I do not agree with them. These characteristics will be very helpful in the leadership roles I get if I use them to the best of my ability.
Two leadership styles that I would like to use when I lead would be
Examining the Greek system is significant to me because Greek life is a dominant tradition in many universities, both academically and socially, and I am interested in understanding why it is so prominent here on campus. Additionally, analyzing the overall structure of the Greek System will allow me to understand why students feel inclined to become a member of these organizations while others don’t. In order to comprehend this student subcult...
I aspired to play a significant leadership role in all of the activities someday, and over the course of my high school career, I thankfully have. This year as a senior, the student body elected me as the president of Student Council; members of National Honor Society (NHS) did the same; future business leaders elected me as the vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); and I received the votes to secure the office of secretary in the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. Coaches and teammates have named me as an important asset as well. Over the years, these opportunities have presented me with many chances to enjoy extracurricular involvement, meet new people, and mature into a

The four ways leaders gain credibility from followers are, Ownership, Inspiration, Commitment, and Respect. Each of these allow a leader to show off their skills in many ways allowing them to be one with their followers. To be able to gain respect and inspire others, means a leader is able to connect with their followers. To commit to the work means they work with their followers, and to be an owner of their own actions allows them to accept their mistakes and learn from them, teaching followers in a new way.
Did you know that many successful men and women have participated in Greek organizations throughout their college years? Many people that have participated in Greek organizations have gone on to be very successful. Former President George W. Bush was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon at Yale University. (Besque) Delta Kappa Epsilon has dated back to 1883 when Edward Griffin Bartlett founded it. If students want to rush this particular fraternity there is certain criteria that must be met, they must have academic excellence, a high moral character, and a self respecting character. (DKE) “Nine million college students are members of a Greek organization and whether they join to make friends, build resumes, to go to parties or to learn leadership skills, they each have an incentive to change some aspect of their life.” (Examining the Benefits of Greek Life) Allowing these Greek organizations shows that successful people with positive values and goals do come out of Greek organizations. Continuing these positive organizations will allow students to surround themselves with positive students which will make for a more positive community and college
...looking for in a student organization, there is almost always an opportunity to satisfy it in Greek life.
When leaders do the opposite of what they claim, it creates mistrust within the organization. To earn trust from the organization, it is important to set an example and model the way (Kouzes & Posner). People tend to words and then observe actions (Kouzes & Posner, 2012). In a leadership position it is important to commit to those promises. When promises are met, members are likely to be more motivated and appreciate the organization (Kouzes & Posner,
Leaders are the individuals who help to create options and opportunities. They help in identifying the choices and solve the problems. They build commitment and coalitions. Leaders do this by inspiring others and working along with them to construct the shared vision of the possibilities and commitments of a better group, organization or community. They engage the followers in such a way that most of the followers become leaders in their own right. The variety of demands of an increasingly complex world very often require that leadership be shared by most of the members of an organization, in appropriate ways for different situations. A leader is the on...
If you are a part of a Greek organization it helps to contact people that are a part of your organization so that they can basically hook you up with anything like jobs, volunteer opportunities even things involved with school and academics. Joseph Oquendo who is the president of Lambda Sigma Upsilon fraternity has “gfained so many countless network connections from being greek”. This has been one of the best choices he has made he cant get over how wonderful it is to be Greek. “The networking helps a ;lot at career fairs. He constanly goes on and on about networking when your not greek is ok but when your Greek networking dramacilly becomes even better.

As a leader I want to focus more what other people have to offer. I want to focus on what my followers have to say and what ideas they have to bring to the table. In a leadership situation everyone that is supposed to be involved should be involved. No leader should single someone out leaving the rest to sit silent. I should never pick favorites. There should be a somewhat fair playing field as far as problem solving and conveying ideas. I should promote this and do what I can to better myself if I see
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Leadership is not always in the hands of members and it continually meet with dilemmas and difficulties.
In today’s modern time, college and universities are competitive and impacted; a lot of students work hard and compete to attend the best. Nowadays, high GPA and grades are not the only important factor that college and universities look for, but being an all-around student who is involved with volunteer work, campus clubs, and sports. Many students take the easy route and turn to clubs or bigger social organizations such as the Greek life. Unlike the average clubs or student organizations participating in a fraternity and sorority is a lifetime affiliation and students are only allowed to be committed to one. These social/cultural groups are filled with members who share similar values and interests that can also offer a college life experience, good or bad.
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
