Leadership
Leaders and followers are all across the United States. Men and Women from all cultures and ethnic groups have this. A variety of people are impacted by a single person who are leaders and followers. Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a follower to a leader. From this I have learned and experience a lot. A true leader possesses three primary qualities: leadership skill, determination, and courage.
Frist, one of the three primary qualities is leadership. Leadership is an action of leading a group of people or an organization. Nothing can be substituted for time. Worse, once wasted the time you had. It can never be regained. Leaders have numerous demands on their limited time. Leaders with strong time management and organizational skills are able to role model powerful techniques for their team members. For example, set goals, identify and communicate priorities. Setting goals can serve as a target on the way to the accomplishment of the vision. Identify and communicate priorities that are strong time management requires, close, consistent, and regular communication among all people working on an activity or project. Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one, or facing the pain, or even grief. Self-discipline is one of the most important qualities to have if you want to create the life you really want or have. It takes courage, focus and the willingness to look within yourself and others. It takes a lot to be brave and to be bold. Bravery is the ability to confront pain, danger or attempts of intimidation without any feeling of fear. It is strength the must humans have. One of the best explanations of courage is the following by Maya Angelou: “One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtues with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.” Her explanation summarizes all that courage can lead you to who you are in life. Courage is standing up for what you believe in, despite disapproval, pain, fear, uncertainty, or intimidation. Courage is challenging what is normal. Courage is giving voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Courage is using whatever power available to educate the world about injustice. Courage is following your heart even when the path is not known. Courage is trying after failing.
Courage is the thing which can be found in a child to an old man. It needs a lot of courage to take out courage from the heart. It is like a brain. It depends on the person, how and when he uses it. This tiny word has the power to convey the whole gesture of a person. According to Harper Lee?s genius ?To Kill a Mockingbird?, Courage is when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through it through no matter what.
Throughout history, there have been great leaders: civil rights leaders, business leaders, and spiritual leaders who have inspired millions. Leaders and visionaries such as John Lennon or Martin Luther King Jr. fought for unity, love, and made an impact on people through their speeches or songs. Watching these great men touch the hearts of millions has brought out a desire for me to become a C.E.O. and an important leader in the life of others. Not only do leaders have knowledge in politics, in emotional values, and spread a certain message or “vision” to their followers or co-workers, but they have certain special characteristics which make them great leaders or heroes. So, what makes these people different from you and me? Could it be that they are better looking? Perhaps they speak in parables or give great speeches? People have often said to me that a good leader is a person who guides both physically and mentally. Going to the job shadowing program has given me an opportunity to broaden my view on how efficient and effective a good leader can be in the work place. Something that has been shown to me in my many interviews with the board of directors has been that every leader must have the capability to have integrity, listen, a vision, and must be responsible.
Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p. 3). While playing an active role in your community is a positive thing it does not make someone a leader of that community. All leaders have a group of people they have inspiration too and that is a good way of determining who your personal leaders are. My mother, brother, and grandfather are my leaders because I have always looked up to them and tried to mimic some of the great things that I have seen them do. My mother has always been an independent women with goals and an action plan to accomplish those set goals. Stephen, my elder brother, is outgoing and tends to have a leveled head when it comes to evaluating stressful situations. My grandfather is the most caring person I know and he is amazing at keeping situations under control in order to please everyone. These are all the qualities I want to combine into my own leadership style. I know I am not a efficient leader of these actions yet, but I plan on growing into this as I more on into my career, fulfill my set goals, and adjust to the curve-balls that life throws at me.
“Courage - a perfect sensibility of the measure of danger, and a mental willingness to endure it.” Courageous people understand the danger that they face when they act how they do. That is what courage is all about. Many historical events occur due to people having the courage to do what they think is right, or because of those who use their courage to do what they want. Having the courage to stand alone in one’s beliefs may be one of the hardest thing a person can do.
Bravery is where people have a lot of courage to maybe sacrifice something for someone. There has been a lot of bravery throughout the world, and many people do it differently. Also bravery can be someone who does it when others don’t expect it to happen. Like in the book The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, the spiders captured the dwarves and Bilbo saved them, and led the spiders away from the dwarves. Such as the quote” I shall draw the spiders off, if I can; and you must keep together and make it in the opposite direction “( Tolkien, 165). Bilbo shows bravery because he led the spiders away from the dwarves, so the spiders wouldn’t hurt them. Bravery is someone who steps up when no one else wants to, and does things for others rather than worry about
Leaders posses a variety of personality traits, but there are only a few traits that define a great leader.
Perhaps the most important qualities of a leader are passion and motivation. Especially when leading a group for a particular cause, a leader must be personally attached to that cause. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., for example, is a legendary leader because he fought for a cause that directly affected him. had he not been pushing for a personal reason, his actions would not have been as passionate. This would have caused a lack in motivation, another essential leadership quality. A leader faces many roadblocks and opposition and thus, must be motivated to continue fighting and leading. A leader’s attitude and opinions are valued by the group and therefore, if a leader is motivated, the group will be, too. The continued actions and successes, no matter how small, which move the group closer to its goal also help its motivation and drive.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
Courage is a state of mind that enables a person to overcome fear, pain, danger, or hardship. Although different from one another, all aspects of courage involve taking risks.
What is courage? Courage is the spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, and bravery. Courage to me is bravery, heroic acts, and people that put their life in danger. Many people show acts of courage everyday in the world. You might not know if you are showing courage, unless it is a big act.
One of the most important components of leadership is the leader. A leader is responsible for his or her followers and the overall goal of the group or organization. Leaders are the people held accountable or everything that happens, good or bad. On the other hand, the second major component of leadership is the followers. Without followers, a leader would be worthless. Followers make up the backbone of a leader because they are the masses that get goals accomplished. A leader is just one person, but the number of followers is countless. In order to be an effective follower, there are a countless number of characteristics that allow a follower to be the best they can be. Five of these characteristics include a positive attitude, communication skills, being part of the process, being open to new ideas, and patience.
As stated by Yeung Kathryn, “You get in life what you have the courage ask for”, courage is a highly acclaimed trait that shows the action on the consequences of fears and doubts. This is not a single characteristic. It is the combination of numerous quality such as bravery, passion, faith and so on which makes a perfect human being. Though it is very easy to pronounce, it needs lots of struggle to raise up. The value of courage is profound by motivation behind it. By being brave simply is not considered as courage.
The thought of that the way leadership is being made based on characteristics is called, “Trait theory of leadership”. The leader as a person needs to be creative, original, and inspired behind the movement of the company. By doing this it can further help the leader as a person have new ideas and create more contributions to the organization the leader is in charge of and while having these characteristics they should be able to be organized, dependable, and be an achiever. Their personality should also be talkative, very social, and outgoing; this will help them move forward the most. Finally, another point that helps me from my definition of a leader is most of all a leader needs to be trustful, tolerant, kind and this will help them be a great person to get along with. Without trust in the leader nobody will follow someone who cannot be trusted because the leader will look as if they will not accomplish
I believe true leadership is a quality many aspire to have, and only a few truly obtain, because in order to become a leader you must first learn to follow.
