Leadership... What is leadership?... Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. But that isn’t all that comes with being a leader. To me a leader is someone caring’[, fair, and compassionate. John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the united states and John Bergmann, the founder of the popcorn park zoo are two leaders that possess these traits. Both men John F. Kennedy and John Bergmann are caring men. Being caring is important to being a leader, because people will want to follow them and want to follow in their footsteps. First, John F. Kennedy and John Bergmann were equally as fair as they were caring. When leaders are fair people will do what is told to them and never question it. Kennedy is fair because he never forces any citizen to do anything. For example in his speech he said “Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort?” In the excerpt he said words like “can we”, “will you join” these words show he isn’t forcing anyone to do anything and it is their choice. Likewise, John Bergmann is fair because he doesn’t discriminate against any hurt or disabled animal and will take any animal into his zoo. In the article “John Bergmann and the Popcorn Park” it says ‘“We take them in when no one else wants them,” Bergman says.”’ This shows he doesn’t care about the fact if an animal is hurt and if it isn’t in shape. John F. Kennedy and John Bergmann were compassionate men. This is important John Bergmann because people will trust him and know they can rely him. John F. Kennedy is compassionate because during the speech he was able to show everyone he cared for his country and its cause. In John’s speech he said“In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility--I welcome it.” This shows he doesn’t back down and cares for the cause. He says he doesn’t “shrink away from this responsibility”, this is important because that means he wants to help and cares that the country succeeds. In like manner, John Bergman is compassionate too. John is compassionate because he would always take time for his animals and he does whatever it takes to keep them healthy and joyous. Also, John cares for some of the animals himself. In the text “John Bergmann and the Popcorn Park” it states “and his habit of occasionally bringing animals home with him to give them a little extra care and attention.” This excerpt shows he puts in the time and effort to care for his animals.
